10th Class A Sec

August 2nd, 2008 at 8:18 pm

10thClassASecDirector Dil Satya swears that 10th class A section is completely original, just like a 10th class boy who writes his examination paper swears when he is caught copying. But it seems that he just glanced over his shoulder while making the film and got his inspiration from the Telugu film 10th class. The concept used in the poster of that Telugu film looks disturbingly similar to the Kannada 10th class. But when you are in 10th class and have not done your homework, it is too tempting to get inspired from somewhere else, isn’t it?

That apart, Dil Satya (He got that title from his first film, Dil) is an expert in making people dance to his beats. He has worked as a choreographer for more than 75 south Indian films, starting from Brahma, Vishnu, Maheshwara (Making Ravichandran, Anant Nag and Ambarish dance; what a dreadful beginning to one’s career!) He has also worked as a distributor and distributed lots of south Indian films. He directed Dil with late Prabhakar’s son, Vinod Prabhakar in 2001. As the film didn’t exactly set the box office on fire, Dil Satya is back to school once again!

The film stars Naveen and Priyanka in the lead roles. Prithviraj, the son of the producer, is playing the villain role in the film. Pleasantly surprising while most of the producers in Kannada are busy in introducing their sons as heroes with complete disregard to the looks or screen presence or their ability! The music of the film has given every indication of graduating to the next level of success. We wish the same happens with the film too!

10th Class A Sec Audio(Music) Review by Raju Shanbhag

Honestly, the name 10th Class A Sec. didn’t look too promising when we bought the CD of this album. The picture of a schoolgirl in uniform with her skirt above the knee, ‘studying’ intently with another schoolboy didn’t help the matters either. But music director R. M Abhilash has scored first class with this effort and comes up with some really tuneful songs. Although all the songs are not excellent, three songs stand out as the best of the lot, and we guess that’s enough to sell the album.

Bhagavanta Bhagavanta: Well, the producers will not have to pray to the god to make this song a hit! Music director R. M Abhilash starts off with a bubbly song that registers immediately in your mind. The tune has good repeat value and the lyrics by HariShrunga are lively too. The way he writes about the serious issues such as girl child murder in a lighter vein is really appreciable. Hemanth sings the song very well. A good beginning by both the music director and the lyricist.

10thClass Helokagtilla: After a promising beginning, music director R. M Abhilash goes slightly off the track with this track. Of course, every song in a film will not be a chartbuster, but this song could have been a tad better. While Chitra is her usual self, Kunal Ganjawala takes the lyrics of this song a bit too seriously and struggles all the way. HariShrunga’s lyrics are again very good.

Nambiko Ninnanu: Music director R. M Abhilash again impresses with his soulful number. Singer Pradeep has a very good voice and he is a talent to be watched. Lyrics by Hrudayashiva have nothing special to offer. Nice to see R. M Abhilash back on track after Helokagtilla.

Oh Moda Suri Beda: If singer Chiatra wishes to carry her profile around showcasing her best songs, this song is got to be there. This is one of the best songs of this album. Music director R. M Abhilash again shows his mastery in skillfully mixing a soulful tune with foot tapping beats. Mr. Mano Murthy, you have serious competition! Again, lyrics by HariShrunga is top class.

Bannisalaguvade: After some really delightful songs, this song comes across as just ok. But considering the tune and the lyrics of the song, this song does not seem to be fit for 10th class students!

Punaha Punaha: Sorry R. M Abhilash, after setting such high standards with your previous songs, this substandard song just won’t do. Even Hariharan and Vasundhara Das can’t do anything for song.

Hakki Harito: The lyrics of this song (J. M Prahlad) remind you of “Neene Saakida Gini” from Manasa Sarovara. But the tune is soulful and you may like it after you see it on the screen. You can listen to these if you like depressive songs.

Jakkanaka Jakkanaka: Another depressive but fast song with beats of Maramma festival for special effects. Nothing spectacular either about the music or about the lyrics (J. M Prahlad).
