A Legend Bids Adieu

December 30th, 2009 at 8:05 am

Vishnuvardhan Kannada Film Industry, which was reeling under the shock of the sad demise of singer, composer C. Ashwath, has been dealt with another severe blow. Dr. Vishnuvardhan, the ever green Sahasa Simha for his fans, died of heart attack in Mysore today morning at the age of 59.

For a generation that grew up watching Vishnuvardhan’s films, this is almost a dead end. In more than one ways, he held the pennant of Kannada films high in the national level. The legend earned 7 Filmfare awards, an honorary doctorate from Bangalore University and countless other awards in his fruitful film career spread over three decades. But more than the awards, it is the way his roles and his personality are etched in the minds of Kannada film lovers that will carry his legacy forward for the industry.

Born on 18 September 1950, Dr. Vishnuvardhan started his career with the National Award winning Vamshavruksha directed by Girish Karnad. Later on, he reached the pinnacle of success with films like Naagarahaavu, Bhootayyana Maga Ayyu, Hombisilu, Sahasa Simha, Naagara Hole, Bandhana, Muthina Haara, and Apthamitra. He also acted with legends from other languages such as Rajanikanth, Sivaji Ganeshan and Mammootty.

With the untimely demise of Dr. Vishnuvardhan, a golden era in the Kannada Film Industry has come to a sad end. Bellitere mourns the passing away of this legendary actor and a role model for Kannada film industry.

The big challenge Vishnu faced in his peak time was he was always in the shadow of Rajkumar. Even he followed Rajkumar in his death also.
Its very difficult to fill the vaccum created by this legendary actor. He is one of the best actor of India but he was not given the credit that he deserved. He shud have got Padmashree award from central government.
But he has got greatest award than any award in this world that is pure love of kannadigas.
