Accident

March 30th, 2008 at 9:52 pm

Accident Accident is the third directorial venture of actor cum director, Ramesh Arvind. His earlier two movies were remakes. “Rama Shaama Bhaama” was a remake of Balu Mahendra directed Tamil movie, Sathi Leelavathi. There was one more remake of the same movie in Hindi too. That was “Biwi No. 1″.

“Sathyavaan Saavithri” was also a remake of a Hollywood hit movie, “Cactus Flower”. Incidently a hindi movie, “Maine pyaar kyoon kiya” was also a remake of the same movie. Not sure whether Ramesh remade “Cactus Flower” or “Maine pyaar kyoon kiya”.

In this latest movie, Ramesh has gone a step ahead in the saga of copying and copied the title itself! Ramesh claims that this movie is based on real life incidents. Hope Accident has inspired Ramesh to attempt something original.

Accident Movie Review: A Decent Entertainer

By Raju Shanbhag

Box Office Verdict: Average (Source: SIFY)

Accident Suspense thrillers are rare in Kannada. In fact, after Sunil Kumar Desai disappeared from the scene after a series of flops, nobody has tried that genre. Ramesh Arvind does try his hand at this genre, and the results are mixed.

In Kannada, Ramesh Arvind’s Accident is literally incomparable as no one in the recent times has tried this genre! But comparisons can be made with the films of the other languages. It seems Ramesh is heavily influenced by the Hindi director duo Abbas Mustan’s run of the mill suspense thrillers. Like Abbas Mustan’s films, Ramesh’s Accident runs on multiple tracks at the same time and ends up loosing one of the most important element of the suspense thrillers; a gripping narrative.

It’s not as if the film is bad or boring. It’s a decent entertainer, and unfortunately, it remains just that. Trying his hands in a different genre for the first time, Ramesh succeeds in telling a story that keeps you interested till the end by its very nature. But songs prove to be a bane for the film. Just when you think the film is moving in the right direction, your concentration is disturbed by a song, and all of them are pretty ordinary.

For a suspense thriller, cinematography and background music are the two key points which can make or break the film. Although the cinematography is OK, cinematographer G.S Bhaskar does not try anything unique.  Remember those dim lit rooms and spooky camera angles Ram Gopal Verma created in films like Bhoot? Well, this genre is bit different, but some more imaginative camera work could have definitely done the trick. Music by first timer Rickey Tej is also strictly OK. Sound design, which is another important factor of such films, fails to register.

Accident has so many characters in the film which could have been easily cut out from the main narrative. Dattanna’s character is one such example. Although this fine actor does a commendable job as the mentally disturbed father in law, his character is another disturbance in the flow of the film. So, is the pathetic pirated CD king, who looks like a joker out of a circus (I don’t think it was intentional). But the health minister’s character has been enacted well, and the actor who played the role will definitely be seen in lot of movies in the coming years.

As mentioned before, Accident is a decent entertainer. But from a man who made Ram Shama Bhama, which was way better than its Hindi counterpart Biwi No. 1, much more was expected.

I haven’t seen the movie but the new Music Director Rickey Kej has given some good songs like Baa Maleye Baa, Dheem Dheem and Jididu Banthu( fast track).
After Mungaru Male i have seen shift in music in Kannada Film industry. New Music directors like V harikrishna, Mano Murthy(before MM, Neel(Right Adhre), Anoop Selin ( Associate of Hamsaleka), and the recent one Rickey for this movie are coming up with something new and trying new things. Ofcourse Hamsaleka is evergreen Music Director in Kannada and still maintaing his music with changing trends. no comments for him.
Muisc and songs have made lot influence in Kannada Movies recently and hope keep going on.

The film ACCIDENT name sounds good, but Ramesh Aravind has not done great justice to the script, as it is a thriller more improvement is needed in backround score. Script is not so good…..a lot of improvements has to be made
just music is good but i did not like the movie, it is not a thriller

I saw the movie. A lot of reviews for this movie were advertisement rather than reviews! It’s an ok ok movie. A good effort than a great movie! Anybody can make out that the director is a rookie. Except for the last half hour, editor is totally lost. Movie looks like a drama rather than movie. I could see people in the theatre laughing when the characters in the movie were crying. Ramesh need to concentrate more on background music in his next movie. Its pathetic in Accident. Also he need to watch more thrillers liek Ramgopal Verma’s movies or some english movies how to keep the thriller punch alive throughout the movie using lights, camera, and background score!
Ramesh also suffers from the same disease that V.Ravichandran is suffering from. Both of them direct remake movies well with one distinction that Ramesh has not glorified himself much in this movie. But he’s made sure that he’s there in every frame of the movie.

“baa maleye baa” song tune is good. But looks like there was no co-ordination between the lyricist and the music director. Some words are forcefully put into the song. Especially when the singer’s mother tongue is not kannada, a lot of coordination is required between the lyricist and the music director..
