After ‘Orata- I love you‘, K Kalyan and GR Shankar have come together for Baaji. While the musical lines and tunes give you the it-is-good feeling; there is nothing extra-ordinary in the album. Kalyan’s penchant for lines such as ‘Kyare ladaki- Baayi Badaki‘, ‘Radhe-Shyama ninna prema‘ stand out. GR Shankar adamantly adheres to tunes that are almost synonymously signature-like. Can only wish this album the very best in the competition that the new genre Sandalwood music has in the offering!

Kyare Ladaki Baayi Badaki: stands out as the best of the rest. And when there is not really much to say about the best, I guess the fate of the rest is left dangling on a thin wire of hope. While Kyare Ladaki Baayi Badaki sounds tunefully melodious, it has nothing amazing to make you think about it twice.

Gaaliyalli Kavanava Baredu: This song gives you a gurgitating feel. Meaning, the song maintains a low pitch right through and the occasional highs are slightly cracked. Shamita’s oooying mishmashing in with Shaan’s rather tired throaty gurgles makes this a really ok- ok number.

Radhe Shyama ninna prema: O yes, this has the stamp of K Kalyan; the lyrics are young, whacky and perky. Radhe Shyama’s prema in the Bendha-kalu-ooralli gives a lot of life.

Surabhi Surabhi: Gurukiran’s gullet modulates exceptionally well in this somewhat electronically resonating backdrop. There is a lot of Hindi and English pepper and salt sprinkling into the number. Harsha priya has stepped of the closet to add in a ripping rap intermission. I thought I should highlight these intermissions especially because they encompass indulgently bold vocabulary!

Vandemaataram: For this Vandemaataram, GR Shankar seems more determined to tear you apart than endear you. Wonder if Kalyan has taken a Hindi crash course! This track is packed with Hindi jargon- ‘Jaago jaago meri yaron…… mere vathan ke logon‘, intertwined in a surplus of ‘bang-bangs; break-breaks’! A bad cocktail for the ears!

Kenneya Mele Kambani Male: This heartrending number has Rajesh Krishnan wailing and sniveling. The tune conveys the depression of the moment but nothing more than that.
