It’s funny how the writer of the film Birugaali must have convinced the gullible producer of this movie. Let’s make an effort to rebuild the picture.

“This story has emotion, romance, sentiment, action and everything else people ask sir. You have a sure shot winner in your hands. Think about it. Thalapathi was a super hit. Remember that scene where baby Rajanikanth floats away in a raft? People liked it very much sir. But we will adapt it according to our Kannada sentiments, and we will make baby Chetan float in a small boat. Like the creativity? Thank you sir!”

“But then, we will shift the story. Maniratnam has made many films like Nayakan sir. So we will cut to a coastal area where there is full dadagiri going on sir. Our hero grows up there, and his mother comes searching for him to that same village. Errr.. here is the handkerchief, wipe your tears. She feels that her son is in the same village. No, no, she doesn’t know it, but all Indian mothers who are careless enough to lose their child decades ago will be careful enough to feel their existence decades later just by being in the same place. All the so called sophisticated audience loved that build up in Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham. They will definitely love it here sir.

“Oh yes, I was talking about action sir. Hero one fine morning beats the hell out of an aging rowdy with a borewell handle after wasting considerable water from the pump sir. Sakkat fight in sand and water and Sakkat exposure of hero’s six pack body sir. And he will fight because the villain is troubling his mother. No no, he doesn’t know it yet, but something inside him flares up when somebody does something to her. So he beats the rowdy. It’s moving mix of emotion and action sir. You’ll love it!”

“What? Love angle? Sure sir! Hero’s village elder has a daughter who has a crush on our hero sir. But paapa hero sir, he doesn’t know it only sir. Then hero comes to B’lore and bashes B’lore goons sir. We will show the guy who acted in Gulama in a similar role sir. No, nothing special required; he will just grow beard and look menacingly at everyone sir. Super break for him sir. But in B’lore our hero falls in love with a girl whom he sees in temple. Dashing twist in the story sir. Triangular love story, plus fights, and mother son sentiment added as oggarane sir. I am telling you sir, this is a hundred day picture. Mark my word sir.”

“How will the director handle all this? What sir, you don’t know anything about how Gandhinagar works. I have given him the DVD of Ram Gopal Varma’s Company. Best picture sir. We are going to adapt that scene where Vivek Oberoi meets Ajay Devagan for the first time. Full meter scene sir. We will take that scene. But don’t worry sir, we’ll change that completely sir. How will we do that? Ha, we will translate all the dialogues into Kannada sir!”

“Sir we will take Chetan Kumar as the hero. He has good looks, reasonably good acting skills, and if he acts over smart, we’ll tie a rubber band to his hair and make him look girlie. Sitara Vaidya, and Aakanksha Sontalia are perfectly fit for other roles sir. Why? We have their dates free! Tara will do the mother’s role and her husband Venu will handle camera. He is a brilliant cinematographer sir. He will make even our ordinary, oops, sorry mass film look brilliant sir.”

“How I am sure about the film? Come on sir, its common sense. See, Thalapathi was a super hit, so was Company and Nayakan. So, if we take the best elements from all these films and make a film on our own, imagine how big a hit will be sir!”

“Oh! You’ll make a film on this story sir, Thank you sir”

And that’s how producers lose money in Gandhinagar.

The review given here is 100 percent true.I couldnt sit thru the movie. When people ask me what the story was i have great difficulty in telling it.Its that bad.Only thing good about this movie is Chetan….He excels in dancing and fighting sequence. And ya!He is good looking too.

i watched birugaali twice..considering i havent watched any movies mentioned in the review i liked the movie very much.. its a well made movie.. its above the std of most kannada movies off late.. birugaali was a lil slow in the 1st half.. but i liked the climax and songs wer beautiful..

i wonder how Mr.Raju Shanbhag gave 3.5 stars 4 junglee and 2 for birugaali.. i cudnt sit thru the whole movie..i got irritated while watching junglee..Mr Shanbhag u shud certainly reconsider ur reviewing skills..

The movie is not so bad as written in the review, Its worth watching for the freshness on screen. Nobody has picturized the movie with such beautiful songs, action and live… I really loved the movie.. i would have given 3 stars

I watched the movie twice..once on the first day of release and once yesterday, as i heard that some scenes were cut to make the film better. It has worked!

The first time, i kind of got bored as the direction is not upto the mark but.. Now, after re-releasing “BIRUGAALI”, it’s certainly there to entertain the audience without getting them bored. If i’m a betting man, i’d say it will run for minimum two months, if not more.

For the people reading this review, let me tell you that every film will have shades of other films if we carefully observe. Ideas may not seem new, but yet stand out. The climax is rare and actors are well casted. Chetan, Sitara, Charisma Bharadwaj make a convincing love triangle. Chetan’s look in the film is definitely an icing on the cake and for his fans out there and for people who haven’t watched the film, i must say it’s a must watch as it is a complete entertainer!

PS-I will be surprised if the producers don’t make profit because we have a good kannada film to watch after a very long time!
