Buddhivanta

Budhivantha It’s human nature to get bored of something if it’s done too repeatedly. The cheap slogans, and the funny(sometimes ugly) getups which had given Upendra a superstar status once upon a time are losing their charm. With the entry of film makers like Yograj Bhat and Suri, Kannada movie industry is on a fast track on the change chain. Its high time that Uppi drops these cheap tactics and switch back to the stuff that he did best, the direction!

Buddhivanta was supposed to release on Uppi’s birthday, 18th Sep 08. But again because of the delay in censor certification, the release date got postponed to 26th Sep 2008.

Release Date: 26-Sep-2008
Director: Ramanath Rigvedhi
Producer: SV Rajendra Singh Babu, and Mohan
Starring: Upendra, Pooja Gandhi, Nethany, Saloni, Suman Ranganath, Brinda.
Music: Vijay Antony
Movie Review: Delicious Chitranna

Not so intelligent music!

Buddhivanta Music(Audio) Review By Raju Shanbhag

A few decades ago, there was a time when singers like Lata Mangeshkar and Mohd. Rafi fought for their names to be shown on the cassette covers in the Hindi albums. The lyricists in Kannada will soon have such a situation where they will have to fight for their identity. The CD cover of this film names three lyricists in R. N. Jayagopal, Upendra and Kaviraj. But it does not think it’s necessary to provide the names of the lyricists below each song. Although the quality of lyrics in this movie almost justifies the company’s move, this is a dangerous trend and must be stopped immediately.

Naan Avanalla: For the first few moments of the song, you will feel that you have been cheated by the CD shop owner as he might have given you just the dialogues of the movie. But relax friends; the song will make a grand entry just in a moment. But when the song does make the entry, you will longingly remember the dialogues that were much better than this! Vijay Anthony, Vinaya, Charulatamani and Megha talk sing through this excuse of a song!

Budhivantha Ra Ra Ra Raja: Needless to say, there must be some solid reason in the movie for putting Telugu lyrics found throughout this song. But not a single Kannada word in the whole song? That’s strange. That apart, Ra Ra Ra Raja has a nice tune rendered well by Jayadevan and Sangeeta Rajeshwaran. This may well be a chartbuster in Andhra Pradesh!

Chitranna Chitranna: Actually, the best comment about the song has been strategically included in its title. Upendra again speaks in the beginning of the song about how the reel life is different from the real life. Hope he had actually understood the meaning of this phrase while making some of his earlier movies. Vijay Anthony and Sangeeta Rajeshwaran try their best to salvage some hopes for this song, but in vain.

Harinanda Harinanda: It’s now understood that Uppi will talk in the beginning of almost all songs in this album. But the dialogues in this song are really funny. The song has conversational lyrics and may be popular after the release of the film. Prasanna, Rajeshwaran and chorus sing this song; and there is also the special service of some Rap-Maya. God bless the listeners.

Ravivarmana: Yes ladies and gentlemen, you are dead right! This is a remix of the old classic Ravivarmana Kunchada. Now you understand that what veteran lyricist like R. N Jayagopal is doing in this film. The remix is almost insulting to the old classic. The dignity and melody of P. B Shrinivas is lost in the maze of rap beats. Hariharan is no match for P. B Srinivas. The man tries all the stunts in his armory and just when he seems to be getting it right, some nameless voice shrieks in the background (we are told its rap) and frightens the hell out of Hariharan. Give us a break guys! May be it will appeal to the listeners of fast music.

Ne Nanage Beku: The best song of the album! But considering the quality of the other songs in the album, this is not an earth shattering achievement. But the song has nice beats going for it and Krish and Megha render it well.

Chitranna Chitranna: Uppi not only talks but also sings in this song. He has introduced us to his singing talent and we must say we are not very impressed! Apart from Uppi, there is nothing new in this song.

    What a review !!!!!!!
Everyone including Raju Shanbhag who is criticizing a kannada movie star Uppi’s effort in buddivantha , I have few questions.

    1) When Soundary+ Vishnuvardhan Starrer Apthamitra released it had a full fledged telegu song ” Raa ra, sarasaku raa ra. did any one speak

    2) Late Dr Rajkumar in 80′s had sung a full song in English ( film Operation Diamond Racket and the song is ” if you come today you will be..” Did any one have guts to even say that it is frustating to hear an english song in kannada movie.

These are a few examples. There is also no “Teluguism” in buddivantha. It is a mokery of “Teluguism”. Every Superstar in any language had there own sare of “Dubba movies”. Is there anyone who can prove that there was a hero who always had hit movies ? No and never. And I can challange the contension,

Great review…..and yes, as others said, its very frustrating to see telgu songs being included in kannada movies.

Nevertheless, the songs are really good, and its definitely a commendable job by the music director.

Wishing gud luck to Buddhivanta team!

Uppi magic is gone !! He has lost track acting in “Dubba movies”. He contact with Telugu movies made him lose his image. Moreover he has been overshawdowed by Ganesh and other heroes.

I guess its mainly bcos KFI has lot of Telugu producers. Most of the producers come from real estate background. Bangalore real estate is completely dominated by Telugu people!

I dont understand why there is soo much of “Teluguism” in kannada movies nowadays.
Truly a very sad trend to see.

Got something to say?
