Budhdhivanta Movie Review

(3/5) Delicious Chitranna!
Budhdhivanta Movie Review By Raju Shanbhag
Upendra is a Budhdhivanta; the guy plays seven roles in this movie and still says Naan Avanallai. He takes a dig at anybody and everybody but does not offend anybody. He entertains you, he makes you laugh, he makes you think; and like a typical commercial hero, he even bores you at times. But ladies and gentlemen, it’s no use blaming Uppi for his shortcomings or praising him for his good work; because he has already said, Naan Avanallai. So go through the seven Avatars of Uppi and decide if you wanna watch this modern Casanova in full flow
Act I – The Punch in Panche: Fans of Uppi along the coastal belt of Karnataka, especially in South Canara will shed tears of happiness in the ocean as their favorite hero sizzles in a spotlessly clean white shirt and Panche. His getup is superb, and so is his dialogue delivery which is pure South Canara accent personified. Full marks to Uppi for this avatar.
Act II – The Hot Hunk: Upendra proposes and Brinda exposes. This act is all about Uppi donning a leather jacket, which is almost non-existent on his body and romancing Brinda who is competing with him in ‘shedding the clothes’ contest and winning hands down. Dharmendra sheepishly tries to join the pack; but with a hot hunk and bold babe, it’s hard, very hard. Not too many marks for Uppi’s English accent here.
Act III – Painter Loves Pooja: Uppi allegedly paints rosy pictures on the canvases and in the heart of Pooja Gandhi here. But he doesn’t do much for this role as the painter other than speaking in a hushed voice, which is hilarious for all the wrong reasons. But again, the dialogues are well written and Pooja Gandhi shines in Ravivarmana song.
Act IV – The Rayal Rogue: This is a classic dig at the way fights are glorified in the Rayalaseema areas and the way they are shown in Telugu films. Upendra’s well toned body does the trick for Telugu Pilla Saloni and she is all willing to repeat the ‘runaway bride’ sequence with him. The fight between Upendra and a gang of men with long grown moustaches is the highlight of this act, along with Saloni of course.
Act V – The divine deceit: May the lord have mercy upon the souls who find this act somewhat boring. Agreed, it has some funny dialogues here and there, but the whole episode looks banal and childish. May be you need some divine intervention to see the funny side of this otherwise forgettable story. Nethanya doesn’t do much other than standing around and fluttering her eye lids.
Act VI – The seductive secretary: Honestly, the lean and mean Suman Ranganath is easily the boss of this episode. Upendra plays her obedient but mischievous secretary but the focus is unmistakably on Suman who makes a sort of comeback into Kannada film. Really, it’s a national shame that this girl played mother of a grown up girl in Hindi film “Bhagban,’ not so long ago. Seems like people with lots of Dheemaku are everywhere in India!
Act VII – Can the real Uppi stand up, please: This is the most unimpressive of all the acts; and this is the real Uppi in the film. Thankfully it’s the director seemed to have known this and kept it short.
Fear not when Uppi is hot. He has given full explanation to all the above roles and each seemingly unbelievable episode is explained in its totality. Of course, the film exists for the sole purpose of showcasing Uppi’s acting talent and he does no injustice to the film at all. A worthy watch for Uppi’s existing and wannabe fans.

No producer is coming forward to invest money for his direction movies. His crapy remakes are failing miserably to impres.

Mr. Raju Shanbhag Its time for your retirement. Please pass on this job to someone else. Avoid writing kannada reviews. You can stick to hindi alone that will do.

Man raju, your review context (as a whole, not this movie in particular) has become so imaginary that it no longer reflects the movie. So concentrate on and reveal a bit of plot/story/climax, first half, second half, acting, +/-, glamor quotient, hero, comedy. Do include Reviewer’s choice.
I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
