Chellidaro Sampigeya Movie Review – Chandamama Story!

Movie Review By Raju Shanbhag

chellidaroo_sampigeya01 There are some films that just transcend the boundaries of time and language in being boring and jaded. Krishna Vamshi’s Telugu flick Chandamama is one such story. No matter when it’s made and in what language it’s made, it always looks tacky. Kalasamrat S. Narayan has made a film that is an unintelligent remake of Chandamama, bores the viewers to death and then proves that true turn offs are always timeless.

Chellidharoo Sampigeyaa is all about love; and it manifests itself in various shoddy ways throughout the film. There is Ananth Nag who dances around a house when his daughter returns to his home after THREE MONTHS of college, and he believes that all people in his village are his children (not in a biological way, of course). There are other people in the village who have nothing else to do than hanging around Ananth Nag’s house and shedding tears when the father and daughter hug each other (I can understand!)

Ananth Nag decides to get his daughter married and finds Prashanth, who by the way is introduced with a song near a waterfall and green paddy fields, just like a conventional heroine. Just when you start licking your lips in anticipation of an early finish to this sorry story, Biyanka Desai launches herself in the middle of everything with an utterly expectable twist. She has a boyfriend, who ‘used her’ (boys, calm down. There’s actually nothing) and then ditched her.

Being the true hero of the film and having nothing else to do, Prashanth goes to the city to bring back Vishwas. Does the film end after he comes back to the village and clears all the misgivings? Not really; it’s only the interval!

Watch the movie to know what happens post interval and to know how can you stretch a movie like a chewing gum when there is absolutely nothing left to tell.

It seems S. Narayan is travelling back in time with his skills as a director and as a storyteller. Melodrama sticks its neck out in every frame of Chellidaru Sampigeya and makes you wonder whatever happened to the director in S. Narayan. These days, Kalasamrat is using most of his limited creative resources to compose music rather than directing movies. Couple of tunes are good and they are well shot too.

Prashanth looks genuinely confused for most part of the movie and I doubt that it was part of the script. Ananth Nag doesn’t have much to do except yelling bloody murder for a split second in the climax. Doddanna believes in being obscenely loud and Vishwas is ok.

Biyanka Desai looks gorgeous and acts reasonably well. She has lost her weight and maintained her dignity in this horrible film. Spoorthy shrieks at every three minute interval and you wish her acting was as good as her cute shrieking abilities. Her Bakra program in U2 is any day better than Narayan’s clandestine Bakra program here in this movie.

On a whole; forget this film!

    Hi Raju,

Y do u waste ur time reviewing these “S.Narayan” movies. He has become a copy cat. He has given great films, that v can appreciate. But now a days, he has done a lot of “hard work” to bring in the stories from other industries. Is he planing to build a film factory. Being a senior director, he should know his importance for the KFI. Its better he sits at home and watch his good old movies, rather than making these kind of CRAP movies time to time.

Mr. Narayan, please do get retired as soon as possible. There are many more younger directors waiting to come in.

Evagle theatres sakagtilla antha producers jagala adthidare, nim film release madi, ondu olle film ge theatre yak tilkolthira.

S.Narayan must be planning to open a bubble gum factory.

Got something to say?
