Excellence in Choreography

inthiNinnaPreethiya The quality of films here in KFI may have hit rock bottom, but the music in these films have been strangely floating high above all this lack of quality and keeping our hopes alive. Truly, the music that is coming out of Kannada film industry in recent years has been among the best in Indian cinema. The heady concoction of composers like Harikrishna who work magic with melody and the ones like Jessy Gift, who try out new ideas without compromising on quality have been terrific to the music companies and of course, to our ears.

But what about framing those songs? That’s an art that our industry is still trying to master and even today, not all videos match up to the intrinsic beauty of their audio. But there are gems, coming from filmmakers who understand the soul of music, and who depicted the melody of a song through sheer imaginations on the screen. We have come up with five such songs that had the capacity to change the framing of songs in KFI. Please note that all the songs are from recent years only:

Ondonde (Inthi Ninna Preethiya):

Taking a break from his below the belt comedy circus, Sadhu Kokila decided to dish out one heck of a song and director Suri was all game to this unexpected challenge. Frames changed before you could spell the name of the film; but each single frame, however short it is, tells the story of a genius who can create magic in seconds. Keeping in line with the mood of the film, the lighting was dark, but the feel wasn’t.

E Sanje (Geleya):

Tiny drops of water splashed across Tarun’s face appeared like sea pearls in that ultra slow motion. The camera eyes moved like a hissing serpent across the sea and the special camera that provided the super slow motion effect only accentuated the feel. The song is in slow motion; so relax, give it time to sink in!

Male Nintu Hoda Mele (Milana):

When was the last time you wanted to see a film looking at the song alone? Director Prakash told an interesting story through this song and it worked like a charm. The scenes were simple, but the effects were deep. Wish we get to see more such songs instead of irrelevant hill tops and incongruous foreign locations.

Hingyake Hingyake (Patre Loves Padma):

The film might have bombed at the box office, but this song is still an ode to creative possibilities of director Chandrashekhar Shrivastava. Set in a dilapidated and deserted mansion, the song was beautifully shot, and wonderfully narrated the dilemma of a person sandwiched between two girls. Sad that this director is missing from action these days.

E Majavada (Junglee):

Ah! Somebody knows item girls have a life of their own! Suri had the courage to see beyond the obvious in this alleged item song in Junglee, and the result was fascinating. Instead of focusing on inappropriate body parts, the camera focused on the dancer in between the shots, seemingly catching her off guard at times (of course those moves were choreographed too; but therein lies the beauty of the song!) The mud covered extras and unique camera movement assured that this was not your run of the mill item song!

    @veeresh,
Movies and industry will not improve unless directors/producers come out of lameness and stupidness. Most of the movies look like they were made by mentally deranged people. “Gunavantha” is one such movie.

bari nimantha audience nam karnatakadalli edare antha gothadre producers ondu film kuda madalla………. u peoples would have made even avatar utter flop if it was a kannada movie….

in all yours mind u have only one perception that ” kannada movies will be always worst ” …. remove that first
u all thinks all over the world great movies comes except KFI…..
FYKI even in KFI original creativity mvz comes…

i don’t know what u guys thinks according to me manasaare,e manjunatha, raj, ambari, ramesh arvind last 2 movies, gokula….are superb and there are still many more mvz to appreciate too
we should not blame KFI, they always try to give best mvz ……. we are the one to be blamed…. if good directors comes to know that all over karnataka there are only audience like u diff they will not make movies only in KFI and not only kannada directors even great directors all over the world will fear to make mvz here.

all film industry have good and bad directors may be we have the 2nd one more…but we have enough great directors and yb,suri, shashank, guruprasad, prem, prakash…etc are some of great directors who really taking kannada flags high.

Other lang peoples support and watches only there mvz no matter it is good r bad….. and i used to appreciate kannada audience because they used to support only good kannada mvz…….and now after seeing this thread i am feeling like they started to criticize even good movies too

even there are kannada mvz i don’t like but the point is those mvz are done by some untalented directors…and because of those peoples it not good to criticize the entire KFI.
because when u criticize KFI our great talented directors, actors, actress, technicians comes under that group….

Sorry to give details abt hollywood and bollywood. Eg for good movies: Avatar, 3 Idiots, My name is khan and some more.

Market is ultimate. U have to accept the truth. Otherwise u have to watch movies like dideer dose. U can’t expect every time good movies with less time, less money. If good movies coming then u have admire them more than bolly and holly directors.

  4. Kishor on March 31st, 2010 3:23 pm

I am not criticizing KFI or any other FI instead i just commented on ur comments. In ur comments, u said one need good budget to come out with good movies, for that i said even movies with less budget and good story and screenplay will come out good.

Well, my only point here is that for bad movies we should take budget as the reason it applies not only to KFI but for any film industry.

PS: If budget is the only criteria then why there are no good movies for that matter in bollywood as well as hollywood in the last 2 years.

This is years best film at Oscars is Hurt Locker, which is a small budget film.

No i didn’t tell only about market. I know we the people(kannada) are good enough to create good movies. I told that don’t expect all movies in kannada should be good. First of all Manasaare and Eddelu Manjunatha are crap movies from my point of view. You can give every good movie of kannada for that example, because no one crosses 10 crores.

What i have told that is don’t degrade kannada movies, they are still in race because of there intelligence with small market.

I didn’t understand what u are going to explain here. Do u want to praise some directors here or want to talk about kfi?

For me and veeresh kfi is good enough with this market. There always be a scope for improvisation. We all expect the same.

U better criticize otherwise praise. Don’t do both. And about malayalam industry, we are far ahead of them. U too also don’t expect all movies in kannada be good . K?

    @ Surya,

Is Mungaru Male, Manasaare, Milana, Eddelu Manjunatha are these movies big budgeted?

Compare to KFI, Malayalam film industry is very small but there movies are for better than ours in terms of content and presentation…..

And i am not from Team BT!!!

    @parameshi, kishore
How many names these BT people use to comment in commenting area? :P .

Here fools have to understand the real problem of KFI. KFI don’t has big market like other industries. we are only 4 crores of kannadigas here. For excellence u need big goal, if there is no big market like other industries then u can’t expect to get oscar winning directors or actors. U people better compare our industry to malayalam, marathi, bengali etc. Don’t compare it to boolly, kolly, tali woods. If u want to compare then create a market.

Where there is a demand, there is a excellence.

However we have very good directors, actors and technicians with less market. At last i want to tell one thing, we are running behind rich movies. We are very much getting influenced by english movies. One day every Indian languages become kitchen language, then nobody will be there to watch any Indian language movies. At that point our KFI directors, actors will be more happy because they will start to make a movie in english. There should be big market over the world,so big movies, big concept, big prizes :D lol . Before no kannada new movies better u all people watch good movies coming in kannada, than pulling legs for nothing reason.

Its all business, if u want to get success here u should create a big market. May God bless our KFI.

BT is a pice of shit…
not only songs, kannda movies also stands at the top of the indian cinema.
recently there are many swamake movies which are really awesome
genuine and original movies comes in only kfi all most all other lang movies are only remake of some eng or some western lang mve…..

BT is just trying to become popular by abusing our KFI like all others do.
only we kannadigas know the value of KFI ….. people who don’t deserve to born in karnataka like employees of BT just making themselves happy by writing such type of wrong information.

FYI we have best of the best directors, films, actors and everything.

Choreagraphy in Kannada has always been below average. The reason is three – the choreographer, the cameramen and the actors. Today’s kannada actors are yet to learn expressions, understand the notes of the music, meaning of the lyrics and accordingly portray in the songs. The same applies to Choreographers where they are failing to understand the essence of the songs. All they do is make actors show some funky, meaningless steps for the song.

Imran to some extent is good but he seems to still need good help from the actors. Harsha does some good songs but most are again “meaningless”.

Camera work is still not working for us. We see only the camera moving in all directions which is baseless to emote an actors expressions. There is a great absence of closeup shoots of the actors in the songs. There is either the cameraman is trying to hide the actors face which is failing to express or the cameraman is blindly following what others do or misuse the utilities he has got to work out.

Till date Duniya Suri is the only guy who uses the choreography to the max. Songs in Police quarters (A M R Ramesh) are feast to watch.

  14. Santosh on March 29th, 2010 9:06 am

Among the above mentioned songs, E Sanje from Geleya tops. beautifull photograghy.
This is the top class song and we never came across such good song and photography in KFI history.

‘Male Nintu Hoda Mele’ does not deserve to be there…

Got something to say?
