Hodi Maga Beda Maga!
Censor board officer Chadrashekhar has again come in the way of Shivarajkumar and his series of fortnightly movie releases. Chandrahsekhar believes that the title of Shivarajkumar’s next movie Hodi Magai is instigating enough and has asked to change it.
While the Censor board has every right to ask the filmmakers to change anything that it deems wrong, it’s the timing of such demand that can prove catastrophic for the producers of the film. The movie is ready for release, the promos are in place, the music is out there in the market, and there is very little the producers can do now if they are asked to change the name at the last moment.
Maybe the problem is not with the censor board. If Jayamala can ask to change the name of Prem Kahani, Chandrashekhar has every right to ask the producers to change a titillating title. Maybe we need to change the way this whole process of title registration. If the Censor board has the power to ask for a change in the title, may be the names should be registered with the Censor board in the first place. That way, if the board has any problems with the title, it can reject it right at the time of registration and all this drama and difficulties can be avoided.
But right now, the trouble continues with Hodi Maga and the release dates is postponed once again.
And this time, it’s postponed indefinitely.
Latest Update(4th May 2009):
As per the latest update, Censor board officer Chandrashekhar and filmmakers have agreed to add “Hatrick” prefix to the existing “Hodi Maga” title. But with a condition that this new prefix will not be written in small letters but will be same size as the “Hodi Maga” in the posters. So the new title is “Hatrick Hodi Maga”.
This makes no sense. The title Hodi maga means hit him. Hit him means beat the bad guy not a stranger. Well, this movie has a meaning. Is the producer or the director screwed to keep a name this way – No! I think the censor board have to censor things that are unappropriate and unusual for the karnataka cinema! Saying this I conclude that hodi maga title should not be changed!
Time and again censor chief’s double standards has been revealed.He seems to be having lot of inclinations towards third class lyrics and dialgoues of VM andJunglee respectively.Hw is loosing credibility and respect from these kinds of attutudes.
Almost every film-maker without fail says that their movie is a “different” movie before its release.
Some fanatics of Shivanna said Maadesha was a family entertainer even after its release.

Do not believe film-makers claims before its release and fanatics views after its release
According to press reports the movie would be a family oriented despite the title being bit misleading .There was no need for censar chief or general public to make such hue and cry when subject being revealed by crew.Shivanna is most versatile actor and he has Bhagyadha Balegaara,Cheluveye ninna nodalu,Devara kotta thangi,Muttu.. nammappa, which are all having variety subjects.
I always wonder about people without having datebases of movies and forthcoming ones strangely coming into funny conclusions.
this censor board is a big joke. Full of Jokers.

Really its not a fair, I don’t know why Shivanna is facing the same problem again here..
but, this time its not from filmmaker, its due to the people who thinks they are good at giving certificate for the movie (ex, chandrashekar). even I have read about film controversy on title. really speaking they have doing this with intentionally because, with the film name nothing is going to be happens its the theme what the people are going to understand once they will see the movie. as per I know shivanna giving good movies.. I am kindly requesting the people not to do any other controversy on the movie… its not a game to play with others investment (because its the matter of money not stone every one should understand this), it could have told in the beginning when the name itself announced officially to the market, that was the rite time but not at this point.
what there’s in the title ,they hav just taken that from hit song , they can allow ‘ jinta jinta vulgar song ,chandrashekar always does kirick with shivanna , if they keep hodimaga title everyone will start hitting or what ,what nonsense statements by chandrashekar .
Maybe Censor board ought to do what this movie title suggests with the makers of this movie too
In an ideal world, that song itself shouldn’t have been allowed in Jogi movie. Whoever was there on the censor board that time should be punished too. This glamourising of rowdyism should stop. Shivrajkumar looks and talks decent enough.. God only knows why he gets associated with such movies and controversies.
Well, the timing seems to be right too. According to this Bangalore Mirror piece, the censor board wrote to the film’s makers on October 23, 2008. And even called them to the censor board’s office to explain the same. I suppose its entirely their mistake that they thought this matter can be buried.
