It’s Freshers all the way at Filmfare!
South India’s most starry event just got over with a few smiles. This year Hyderabad witnessed the 56th Idea Filmfare awards – Regional. Hosted by Purab Kohli, the 31st July was a night with sparkle.
The Kannada category had a few unexpected nominations and winners. With most of the winners who went home smiling being new-comers, looks like KFI has new trends to follow. Moggina manasu seemed to have impressed the jury by winning 5 out of the eleven awards allotted. Ganesh’s work finally pays off and Radhika Pandit gasps as she holds on to the lady in black.
Best Film – Moggina Manasu:
The leader of all smiles – the winner of the best movie category. Moggina Manasu probably impressed the jury because of the message the movie contained. With the majority of the cast being new-comers, it was the director’s effort to get the lady in black for this movie. Having bagged five out of eleven awards, MM team left everyone envious of their work. E Krishnappa after the monster hit Mungaru Male, produced this fresh lively teen movie with a few lessons to learn. Shashank, the director wins the best director catergory as well. Radhika Pandit wins Best actress, Yash for the Best Supporting actor and Shubha Poonja for the Best Supporting actress, and all of this for their fabulous performance in Moggina Manasu.
Best Actor (Male) – Ganesh (Gaalipata)
This award was a big consolation for Ganesh after several flops post Gaalipata. The talented actor completely satisfied with the lady in black said, “It’s a great and thrilling moment to get my first filmfare award for acting in Gaalipata. It will find a prominent place in my showcase. It is a great moment in my life. My ambition is to have many Filmfares in my showcase.” With bigger projects on-hand expectations seem to be riding high just like the Gaalipata.
Best Actor (Female) – Radhika Pandit( Moggina Manasu)
A debut movie to be remembered. This tele-serial-artist-turned actress is surely enthralled to have won the Best Actress award especially for what she considered a challenging role. The very contented Radhika said, “This is my first movie. To win Best Actress award is something I will cherish throughout my life. It is a great moment to hold that black lady in my hands”.
Best Director – Shashank (Moggina Manasu)
Apart from winning the best movie, this man’s work is given some extra credit. The movie with lessons to learn from is what makes proud Shashank hold the Lady in Black. He said, “The story narrates the mind-set of young girls and their behavior. It is a story that every family faces”. This man also got nominated for the Best Lyricist for his Moggina Manasali song.
Best Music Director – V. Harikrishna (Gaalipata)
With tough competition with the other nominees in the same category, Harikrishna emerges the winner. With over ten movies after Gaalipata, this music manipulator is sure to rule the music galaxy with his work in the near future atleast.
Best Lyricist – Jayant Kaikini (Gaalipata)
Minchagi Neenu Baralu… and the exotic locations have mesmerized the jury. This man who many believed deserved many awards for his previous work now, seems satisfied. His simple lyrics and creative use of language with no English is what got him his award.
Best Cinematographer – S Krishna (Haage Sumane)
If there was one reason the movie Haage Summane outstands the usual kannada film, it was because of Krishna’s cinematography. The jury must have been highly impressed with his work. He faced competition from the others nominees, but we all know the winner did deserve the lady in black.
Best Playback Singer (Male) – Sonu Nigam (Mussanje Maathu)
If there is one singer who was nominated twice for his singing abilities- its Sonu Nigam. While both his Eenagali Munde Saagu and Mayavagide Manasu were nominated he bagged the award for his Eenagali Munde Saagu. He emerged victorious after having faced tough competition from Raghu Dixit, Kunal Ganjawala and Gurukiran.
Best Playback Singer (Female) – Shreya Ghosal (Mussanje Maathu)
A whopping three nominations for the same singer in the same category. Just proving how good she is, Shreya does it once again by winning the lady in black for Ninna Nodalendu from Mussanje Mathu. Although her other hits such as Moggina Manasali( Moggina Manasu), Akasha Bhoomi from Mussanje Mathu were nominated.
Best Supporting Actor (Female) – Shubha Poonja (Moggina Manasu)
This modest star dedicated her award to all her fans. Apparently she said, “They are always an encouragement. It is a great and thrilling moment in my life to receive the award. The credit goes to the entire team of Moggina Manasu”. With a list of movies ahead of her, sure she has more awards to dedicate to her fans.
Best Supporting Actor (Male) -Yash (Moggina Manasu)
This young star was also nominated for the same role in the Best Actor (Male) category. Looks like the jury wanted to give him the award. Although his movie Rocky was not a blowing hit, this movie seems to give him better scope. With movies like Mungarina Modala Hani, Kallara Santhe , Tumba Ishta Swalpa Kashta , Shubhashaya looks like Yash has got a bright future.

Good to see all young minds winning the awards. They have a long way to go ahead. Jayanth, Harikrishna, Shashank, Sonu Nigam, Shreya Goshal and Radhika Pandit are growing up and up in their respective departments. It time for others for self-evaluation.
Only thing to revisit is the cinematography – although there has been creativity compared to a couple of years old there is a lot of scope for improvement in our movies. In most recent songs(including bollywood) we see cameras only running and swinging through the air but is not actually focusing on the actors. Its a terrible exercise to viewers eyes to understand what is there in the picture. Kannada actors are badly shown in song sequences. There is lot to learn from the hollywood style of cinematography. Hope in the coming years there will be something what viewers expect.
