Jarasandha Movie Review

(2/5) A story told before
A dude with a six pack, a damsel with a hot look, and a director with a kick to make action movies; Jarasandha seems to have all the ingredients perfectly mixed for an edge of the seat action thriller. But director Shashank misses the mark this time as he focuses too much on spending the hard earned money of the producer, without giving much of a thought to screenplay and sensibility, the hallmarks of his previously successful movies.
The producers of the movie have spent money on everything in the movie, maybe except Praneeta’s clothing, which always looks like the unwilling gifts from a poor tailor; they are short and they are light, which ultimately make Praneeta look hot. So a bullet shot underneath a vehicle makes it spin in the air and vehicles are almost always on a collision course. The hero jumps from behind a waterfall to kick some serious butts and people make deals allegedly from Dubai’s posh houses.
Terrific, but what about the story? The story of Jarasandha relies on Shashank’s new found criminological asumption which states that criminals are not made, they are born. Thank god, he hasn’t enlightened us with a method to catch these criminals in their birth!
But not many people would debate over this point as Shashank himself focuses on other goodies like unnecessary songs, slow motion fights and yeah, the exploding cars rather than driving his point home. Rich movie; remember? But there are also moments when Shashank shows the flashes of his brilliance as a director. The scene in temple where the villains land up to identify the members of their rival gang is one such scene. It’s beautifully handled and Shashank builds up the tension till the end of the scene without much of a fight or background music.
But such scenes are as rare as a Duniya Vijay hit film.
Speaking of Vijay, the man does act well, shows his gym body to all and sundry and fights well too. But problem with such orchestrated fights are that they don’t look real and hence, you don’t feel the excitement. The fights are only for Vijay fans.
Oh yes, the story (I keep forgetting it, just like Shashank!). Jarasandha is the story of a man (Vijay) obsessed with money and power and who can go to any lengths (or jump from any heights!) to achieve his dream. He takes on Sampat who sits in Dubai and the clash between the two groups continue. While the likes of Ram Gopal Varma, who have handled such stories in films like Company have concentrated more on the incidents and characters and given us classics, Shashank focuses more on fights and untimely songs and of course, the alleged richness and makes this film a run of a mill affair.
Praneeta looks beautifully hot and that serves the purpose of her being the part of this project. Sampath looks like a sophisticated don and others, including Roopa Devi, are not bad. Rangayana Raghu is wasted.
Didn’t expect this from Shashank.

@Murthy, see this from Mr. Ashish alva kurnad on Paramatma review. U will understand wht a saddist this guy is. No doubt … these days many people are around only to spoil the image of Puneet… there he blasts Punneet, here he purposely drags puneeths name only to enrage non-puneeth fans to hate him

Shashank’s over confidence paid heavily.

good movie watch it
dear friends
understand the concept of movie
its good movie
This is not as worst as Raju Shanbhag has reviewed(he has done for same for previous films)..Although the story is old the lively screenplay and vijays acting, songs are good…Vijay is 1000 times better than Darshan who just do gimicks to promote his films rather than doing good movies…Raju Shanbhag should stop writing bad reviews and support kannada industry..
Worthless movie….. Cant sit for one hour…. Whack……
I understand that darshan, sudeep, ganesh fans are not happy with the movie.
