Reasonably Good..

Audio Review by Suchitra Preetham

Jothegara The Jothegara album comes as a surprise of sorts. Firstly for a debutant music composer who popped out of nowhere, the album has some commendable music. The second surprise comes in the form of a transition from good music to rather run-off-the- mill tunes. Makes you wonder if Sujeet Shetty has a creative switch that can turn off and on conditionally. Jothegara boasts of ‘Jotheyalli Nee Baro’ and ‘Ondundu’, both are slow romantic numbers that are an auditory delight. While these tracks call for a pat on the back, the other numbers in the album deserve a rap on the head.

Jotheyalli Nee Baro (Shreya Goshal, Shaan): The time tested and much acclaimed voices of Shaan and Shreya Ghosal emanate lucidly to the Kaikini ink. Sujeet Shetty has skillfully blended in a rhapsody of flute with Shreya’s crystal voice opening to the lines of ‘Jotheyalli Nee Baro Jothegara, Katheyalli Bandanthe Kathegara’. The best number in the album and undoubtly a track that you will want to hear again and again.

Yaake Yaake(Shreya Goshal): Truly Yaake, ‘Yaake Yaake metchikondithu yaake, Yaake Yaake Duura-talithu Yaake’ this track on lost love could have been less screechy and a little more subdued in tunes and tones.

Jarataari Seere Anchina (Udit Narayan, Kalpana): This ‘kolu kolanna kolu’ track penned by Jamkhandi Shivu has the plain Jane- only presence- no substance sort of song.

Jothegaara

Muttaiderella Seri (Madhu Balakrishna, Chitra KS): Another one by Jamkhandi Shivu that bites the dust. A lot of dust actually! This time it is a pre- nuptial number that screams the theme ‘Jothegara’ and ‘Sobanam’.

Ondondu ondundu (Kunal Gangawala, Shreya Ghosal): Ondundu is the other track in this album that stands out for sheer finery. A cozy and romantic number, Ondundu has a fair play of percussion and strings that offsets the flair of the intonations. Kudos for this one!

Sona Kannalle Koltale (Gurukiran, Sunaina): ‘Sorry Sorry, very sorry bar-bedi nama thantake’ is predictably the huduga-hudugi in a love-war song. The music is as predictable as the lines. A rather average sounding number, ‘Sona Kannalle Koltale’ is not really a number to look forward to.

I think you should first learn some English, then, if possible some music, and then try to talk about music in English! Sujeet has been around a bit in music and has worked in Bollywood, so how about also doing some homework?

Rajesh Krishnan would have sung better than Shaan in the Jotheyalli Nee Baro song. Shaan has sung it badly.
