It’s not often that you get a Kannada film album where all the songs are worth listening repeatedly for one or the other reasons. Junglee does not offer you too many varieties in terms of tunes or lyrics for that matter. But whatever it does offer, it presents them bloody neat! The magical team of Harikrishna, Yogaraj Bhat and Suri have brought a fresh perspective to this album within the parameters of commercial constraints. We had a blast listening to it!

Hale Patre [Singers: Kailash Kher, Sowmya Rao]: Harikrishna’s overworking imagination and Kailash Kher’s high pitched voice transform the Hale Patre encore into a chartbuster tune! Sophisticated Sowmya Rao looks strangely out of sync with the sensuously rustic appeal of the other people in the song; how boring! This is one of the finest lighthearted lyrics that came in Kannada in recent times and the credit goes to our incurable lover boy, Yogaraj Bhat. The tune is rocking and there is always something funny to discover in the lyrics every time you listen to it. Grand opening by Soori’s Hale Patre team!

Nee Endare [Singer: Sonu Nigam]: Exit Yogaraj Bhat and enter Jayant Kaikini. So, exit Kailash Kher and enter Sonu Nigam. The combination has never failed, has it? Even this time, the Harikrishna, Kaikini, and Sonu Nigam trio delivers a soothing song. Although the raw appeal of Hale Patre is missing here, it’s still a beautiful song. Sonu Nigam’s voice seems a bit thicker, but Jayant Kaikini’s lyrics are, as usual soaked in love and dripping with emotions.

Ee Majavada [Singer: Suma Shastry]: Bhat’s back with a bang again! With inimitable lines such as Khali ideyo ninna hrudaya, saala padeyo nanna hareya, Bhat infuses a touch of sophistication even in an allegedly item song. Suma Shastri’s coarse voice fits in well with the tune and the tune is ok.

O Nalmeya [Singer: M.D. Pallavi Arun]: Its melancholy time and Jayant Kaikini is back with his sense for symbolism intact. MD Pallavi’s irrepressibly cheerful voice almost spoils the mood of the song. But the tune and lyrics are nice and you’ll end up liking this song. Again, a wonderful tune by V. Harikrishna.

Junglee Shivalingu [Singers: Tippu, Anuradha Bhat, Rangayana Raghu, Chorus]: What a song! Now, it may not win the award for the most melodious song of 2009. But it’s definitely foot tapping, and wickedly funny, with Yogaraj Bhat’s magic working all over again. Listen carefully, and you’ll know how pleasantly funny the spoken Kannada can be, with sprinkles of half baked English all over the tune. The sneering voices of Tippu and Rangayana Raghu and the “I-couldn’t care less” attitude of Anuradha Bhat make the song all the more merrier.

The super success of Hale Patre lyrics should teach Suri that in a media like movies, simplicity which doesn’t tax the mind & soul and entertains will win. Abstraction and complex themes should be left to paintings.

This shows even a kannada singer can match the voice of SHREYA……
