Raghu Dixit Disappoints!

JustMaatMaathalli After the phenomenal success of Psycho songs, we expected Raghu Dixit to change the map of Kannada films songs. We had to wait for more than a year to know if our expectations would be met. Finally Raghu Dixit is now back with Just Maath maathalli, and the results are a bit confusing. While the man still retains the ability to surprise you with some vividly different tunes, the wave that he created in Psycho has died down in Just Maat maathalli. And we are compelled to ask…

Why Lord Mahadeshwara, why?

Just Maatmaathalli: Raghu Dixit uses his rock star voice and a western instrumentation to build a musical crescendo that blurts out the title of the film at an appropriate moment. This is a rather uninteresting Raghu Dixit show as he seems to be biting off more than he can chew in this song by composing, writing and singing it. None of these departments will be blushing with gratitude for Raghu Dixit for sure!

Yello Jhinugiruva: the rhythmically persistent bass and Shreya Ghoshal’s cheerful rendering of this track make it worth a listen. Although this song doesn’t have the typical Raghu Dixit touch that we witnessed in Psycho, it’s still a chirpy number and the lyrics by Sudhir Attavar & Raghavendra Kamath are tailor-made for this song.

Munjaane Manjalli: It’s interesting how Raghu Dixit manages to be melodious in this song even with relentless bass and his own unforgiving voice. The song has a decidedly western balladic touch to it, but what the heck; it’s a nice song and sounds different. That’s all we ask for!

sudeep-JustMaatMaathalli

Ee Kaninalli: People cheer and clap for Raghu Dixit in this song, but they all belong to chorus and they are paid to do their jobs. While it’s doubtful that the paying public would be as enthusiastic, Raghu Dixit’s unique sense of rhythm and beats save the day for this number. Nandish Chandra’s lyrics are lost in the mayhem of paid cheers from the crowd. Lakshmi Manmohan’s voice in the song is a much welcome break from the cheers and the drums.

Baanina Haniyu: This is the patho version of the title track and so, a gloomy violin and a gloomier Raghu Dixit in top pitch try their best to make you experience the seriousness of the situation. They succeed to some extent, ably supported by Manojava Galgali’s philosophically depressing lyrics.

Marubhoomiyalli: After listening to Raghu Dixit in four tracks before, you might be inclined to believe that Rajesh Krishnan would be a whiff of fresh air in this album. But this talented singer sounds surprisingly off color in this track. May be Rajesh was having an off day, which doesn’t happen very often, or may be Raghu Dixit’s composition doesn’t suit his voice. Anyway a forgettable track in every aspect.

I am an NRI and its sad to see such a poor review of this fabulous album. I strongly feel that this reviewer seems to have an agenda against this movie. He doesn’t deserve a place in such columns. I also feel sorry for Sudeep for being on a losing side after creating such a nice movie. May be our audience are not prepared yet for good movies like this. I sincerely hope, Sudeep doesn’t turn to his bang bang style movies again.

  11. devang on January 25th, 2010 12:03 am

that song is for the mass audience..ever heard of the other version of it? it’s cool as heck..and madhura pisumathige is one of the best songs ever made in India!!…..it has created history and hysteria….even my non-kannadiga friends listen to it like 100 times a day….manasare songs can be heard not more than two times…gets boring after that…there’s something missing in it…BIRUGAALI’s MADHURA PISUMATHIGE AND HELBIDE!!!…………..just frikking awesome…hoovina and hacchi are nice too…not sure if u have heard to jojo lali…its beautiful too.

  12. Mana on January 24th, 2010 4:06 am

@ devang- birugaali one or two songs are good…but there are 2-3 annoying numbers. Jassie gift’s song is damn irritating. Nobody even talks about the album.

  13. sangameshpandey on January 23rd, 2010 11:17 pm

    1) Of course manasaare is best in the year 2009-2010 with >4/5.

    2) Second comes JMM only no doubt at all. Even though there is stealing from western music.
There is diffrent flavour in his presentation. 3.5/5

    3) Third may come Maleyalli jotheyali . 3/5 Hari krishna music lacks creativity except few songs in 2009….

    4) Another thing i forget to tell you ello song music by manomurthy is really looks like national award winning song. But it never wins bcz kannada peoples itself spit on kannada talents. Of course, no doubt, tamils, bengalis and others spit on kannadigas…..in cinema, science, sports….

  14. devang on January 23rd, 2010 10:54 pm

    @ mana– have to disagree.
Birugaali is best album of 2009…

  15. Mana on January 23rd, 2010 7:13 pm

On miliblog this album is rated as the best..The rating does not even consider Manasaare..how idiotic is the reviewer.Manasaare is the best album of 2009.

  16. TLM on January 21st, 2010 11:18 pm

Music is good, but Raghu’s voice is becoming irritating…it doesn’t suit all the songs..Yello Jinugiruva Rocks..

  17. Gururaj on December 30th, 2009 5:45 pm

Whats the need for Raghu Dixit to sing most of the songs in this Album? I really liked the title track(has a good western touch to it). But ellaa songs onde thara ide.. i think we expected a lot from RD. This album is just average.

  18. patil on December 29th, 2009 11:31 am

really RAGH DXIT. did good job only.. songs are good nd refressing,,, but feeling like identical to to psycho movie that is the problem ..even though its depend up on story nd hw they shot also…i wolud give 4out of 5..

  19. Chinmayi on December 24th, 2009 7:43 pm

Incidently similar kind of fanatic comment spamming was done for Ilaiyaraja’s Prem Kahani and Nannavanu music reviews also on this site!

  20. sudhir on December 24th, 2009 6:09 pm

what a dabba review…., JMM is rocking…, dabba website

  21. Abhi on December 24th, 2009 4:48 pm

I don’t understand whats great about this album. So many songs look inspired. One or two sound like Lucky Ali’s songs and one of them resembles the song from Rock on. Accept the truth this is an average fare. Psycho was too good, but this is an average one. You can see shades and smell of Psycho in the songs

  22. raghu on December 24th, 2009 3:07 pm

Vinay is a classic example of fanatics that are sprouting up like mushrooms for this composer all over the place. First, Vinay says that it’s not a negative comment about ur work, and then, he cannot resist the temptation of showing his true colors by using words such as crap and shit.

Coming back to the music, everybody will have an opinion about all the music that was ever composed anywhere on this earth. But it seems the fanatics of Raghu Dixit cannot stand even mild criticisms about their god and anyone who doesn’t praise him to the skies are not fit to live on this earth in their opinion.

get real guys, nor u, neither bellitere is the final authority on anything. The reviewer has expressed his opinion, and if you differ from it, there are civil ways to express them. Stop acting like stubborn school kids and grow up

  23. guru on December 24th, 2009 2:55 pm

sorry raju shanbhag ..i have to say this..u aint got wide music knowledge….

  24. Vinay Shetty on December 24th, 2009 1:57 pm

There is no negative comments on your work. Raghu Dixit deserves all the credits for the music. Raghu has not followed the trend of the current music. He has broke the barriers and the Falvor of Raghu’s music cannot be recreated or copied of any other music director in the Industry. The songs goes better and better when you hear them again and again.

This review is aint nothing but a Crap shit. sorry Mr. Raju Shanbag. May be you should hear those songs again and again.

  25. vrushchika on December 23rd, 2009 11:49 pm

Songs are no better than Psycho, besides some numbers…even if you compel urself to hear it 3-4 times you will find it lower than the Psycho, the master music.

But Ultimately it depends on the taste of the director for good music.

Between where is the review of ‘Shishira’ music? the music seems to be very good, different and off the current stream of love and tapan guchi songs.

  26. Kumar on December 23rd, 2009 11:32 pm

I heard the album and think its good…..its got nice instrumentals and well written lyrics. All numbers are romantic numbers…maybe there is no foot tapping number like ‘Ninna poojege bande madeshwra’….but remember that this album is not psycho2..but its JMM

    Deserves a 4 or more

  27. harsha on December 23rd, 2009 10:42 pm

for all those who have gave negative comment “JUST DINA DINADALLI ” songs will haunt U for sure…… all u guys remember even PSYCHO songs got bad response at beginning………..

  28. nk on December 23rd, 2009 10:24 pm

songs are different then other film songs & its super songs. after listening 3 to 4 times you can feel its good songs otherwise not.

  29. Vinod on December 23rd, 2009 8:09 pm

My god Nikhita, what a rage! Why r u so getting worked up over a silly album which nobody is listening anyway! Do u have any pesonal friends in the crew from this film?

  30. Raghu on December 23rd, 2009 7:50 pm

Its funny to see the fanatics’ comments on this web site as if their life depends on the success of this below average album. They call everybody names and then question the journalistic ethics of this web site. Its as if they have the right to to say anything to anyone but the reviewers have no right to express their opinions.

It seems some people on KFI care more on having fanatic following rather than using their creativity to get ahead. God save KFI

  31. guru on December 23rd, 2009 12:05 pm

    seriously non sense review…
its an abvious album takin kannada music to the next level !! its awesome … i too would give it 4.5/5

  38. sunil.k on December 22nd, 2009 1:24 am

I think. U need to educate yourself before commenting on some superb music ever composed,,I think u have been paid to make an article and not the chorus…well sorry u’v used the word choir…probably u guys dont even know choir only sings in schools or churchs n those singing back grounds for films are called chorus….. Learn to be less nasty n try n do something better if u r trying to find out ways to popularize ur stupid web page…u guys SUCK…cheers RaghuDixit..good goin.

  39. hari prasad on December 22nd, 2009 1:20 am

Ha ha ha Mr.Raju, may I know where u studied journalism from?? Your knowledge bout music or writing abilities are as insane as yiur reviews.

  40. Divya on December 22nd, 2009 12:20 am

    I don’t agree with this review…..
JMM rocks….Its just that people can’t digest the fact that Raghu Dixit has given kannada film industry one more super duper album…..
His style of singing is really unique……U ROCK RAGHU…

  41. Sanjay on December 21st, 2009 10:26 pm

This album is like actor Ramesh phenomena.. Ramesh’s acting is good, he is handsome, has sophisticated looks, has excellent screen presence, intelligent, talks well…etc. But the ‘aura’ that seperates a ‘star’ from other actors is missing in him. Similarly the ‘catchy’ element which can make listenrs go ga ga over songs is missing in this JMM album despite neat composition.

Of course, things might change when we see the video with Sudeep carrying the songs.

  42. basavesh on December 21st, 2009 9:01 pm

    nice snaps

  43. Abhishek on December 21st, 2009 4:43 pm

swalpa loose aagide ansatthe reviewer-ge ! yenappa ?? PERSONAL fight yenaadru aaytha ninge, and raghu dixit-ge or sudeep-ge ?? LOL ! its a wonderful album

  44. Venkatnarayan on December 21st, 2009 11:16 am

Psycho songs are far better then this, nothing refreshing in album.

  45. prasanna on December 21st, 2009 10:13 am

Yes ! would have been a better album if there were variety of singers. Cannot be the best album of 2009 atleast because there were other melodious movie albums like Manasaare, Junglee, Love Guru, Parichaya so on.

  46. Santosh on December 21st, 2009 8:54 am

Overall the album is good. These songs are new to KFI, Tunes are different from our typical Kannada songs.(This is my personnel opinion).
All songs have more western and little european mix.
Munjane Manjalli is superb song of the album. The rest are good.
Psycho had different platform and songs were fitted according to Movie.
I hope the songs of this movie may be according to movie. ( Just Jolly type).
It was in news that the moive is Romantic comedy, so may be the music.
Apart from ALBUM, Raghu should use different singers rather then himself for almost all songs, as if one man show. This is not good.

  47. harish on December 21st, 2009 12:35 am

I agree that songs doesnt live up the expectations that we had from Raghu but it deserves a bit more better review .. I would give 3.5/5. RD should sing only one sing in a movie if really required.

  48. Rakesh on December 20th, 2009 10:58 pm

Raju (Reviewer)has gone mad I think……. THis one is the Best Album of 2009…
Kudos to Raghu Dixit and JMM team…. Very refreshing album….. If it was a movie directed by Suri or Yograj Bhat then Raju would have surely given 4.5/5 stars..!!!!
Stop publishing biased reviews Bellitere…. We expect unbiased reviews from you….

  49. Sharath on December 20th, 2009 6:16 pm

This is my personal favorite album after Mungaru Male & Milana. This album has lot of freshness and its is kind of new for Kannada. I can’t rule out this album has little shades of Phycho especially Beladingalanthe Jinnu Jinugutha in one song. No matter, that is inevitable when pressure of delivery rides on a music director after the previous super hit audio. According to me this is going to be a cult hit….

  50. santosh on December 20th, 2009 2:19 pm

    harsha on December 19th, 2009 10:50 pm

I truely agree with u ,,now a days the review on this website is going waste…no honest reviews…

  51. santosh on December 20th, 2009 2:16 pm

the review is pathetic from raju…

The music is outstanding …album is superb…no matter ,whatever he has said…..

    i give it 5 of 5 …

each n everytime i listen i still love more of this album…

  52. Latoya on December 20th, 2009 2:07 pm

It’s rip off from different tunes. Lungi Haak bitare, janake mundasikki agalla.
    Quality beku re-do dixit.

  53. Naveenkrhalli on December 20th, 2009 11:24 am

JMM music is very refreshing….. may be because of the over expections from the viewer, he has given out just 2.5 for a good album. Truly JMM is refreshing.

  54. Shankar on December 20th, 2009 10:26 am

I agree with Gururaj.. 2 is enough for this kind of album.. Its not like a kannada album..

  55. amoolya on December 20th, 2009 3:22 am

@ Suresh, Quality of audio and orchestration is OK not as good as Psycho which was amazing. It is a personal opinion that Raghu Dixit’s voice does not suit all songs that he sings

  56. harsha on December 19th, 2009 10:50 pm

I heard every song from JUST MATH MATHALLI its simply superb.. i would rate it with atleast of 3.75 or 4 out of 5 coz it deserves it….. raghu has done gud work… use of guitar n songs makes any of CRAZY… its absolutely nonsense review… ” M NOT SATISFIED BY ANY OF THE MOVIE AND SONGS REVIEW FROM THIS WEBSITE RECENTLY”…. HOPE U WILL GET WELL SOON…..

  57. sangram on December 19th, 2009 12:06 pm

The Music is refreshing ,It deserves more than 2.@ Reviewer please grow up.

  58. Suresh on December 19th, 2009 9:49 am

Not heard any songs, but i one thing is cent percent sure Amoolya is 101 percent monotonous in all her postings irrespective of stuff and quality of audio.

  59. amoolya on December 19th, 2009 7:57 am

Tunes may be good, but monotonous singing.

  60. Latoya on December 19th, 2009 6:15 am

Songs are pathethic. Depends on the how the songs are
    shot.

  61. KFI on December 18th, 2009 9:52 pm

    songs are identical to psycho

  62. Gururaj on December 18th, 2009 8:52 pm

Album is not up to the mark.. main problem is Raghu Dixit’s singing.. If he sings all the songs alone.. then it sounds monotonous.. And album sounds like Psycho 2 :P as all tunes almost sounds similar with no variations. Except for Munjane Manjalli rest all are bland..

  63. Sujith on December 18th, 2009 5:19 pm

Nonsence review….i would give it 4.5 out of 5

Got something to say?
