Kabaddi Audio Review

(2/5) Music Review by Suchitra Preetham
Not so outstanding!
Kabaddi’s music with Hamsalekha at the helm has not much to brag about. While Hamsalekha’s efforts in conferring nice music are not disputed, his Kabaddi endeavor is passé. Among the five songs in the album, Jhallanta Kaadutaalivalu and Preethi Maadiro; both romantic numbers stand out.
Jhallanta Kaadutaalivalu (Singer: Hariharan): Jhall-anta-kaadu-taa-li-valu in Hariharan’s rusky voice and Hamsalekha’s tunes is stirring. This slow number scores for its very touchingly true lyrics that can make feel lost in the poet’s world. A really ‘Jhal’ feeling.
Bombe Maanava (Singers: Kavita Set, Harsha): Hamsalekha spued this track with philosophy. It is all about how a man is nothing but a ‘bombe’. With classical carnatic beats and the husky Kavita Set voice, this one is for some time when you have nothing else to hear.
Preethi Maadiro (Singers: Shreya Goshal, Kunal Ganjawala): Kunal Ganjawala and Shreya have churned out enough magic on the Sandal screen. So much so that very often it is the romance of the voices that fills an empty head with lush illusions. Hamsalekha’s tunes and lines are fine but not superbly outstanding.
Mutte Mutte (Singers: Chitra KS, Karthik): In the all-crazy Hamsalekha- Premalokha style; Mutte Mutte is over the brim with a western swish in the melody. There are times when Chitra screams to a screechy top that your hand- to- the-ear reflexes can be tested.
Toltede (Singers: Shankar Mahadevan, Lakshmi Narayan): Toltede has a lot of percussions that come right out of a rural setting. The rawness of this tapori number set in namma halli thalla, can set you getting up to some ‘Thayataka’ steps. But then, that is if you are up to it?
