Kallara Santhe Movie Review

(2/5) False Reality!
The tagline of Sumana Kittur’s Kallara Santhe screams that in the film, you will get politicians, their girlfriends, police and an assortment of such elements that make up the ‘system’ of our society. True to its word, all these elements do exist in the movie. But what the tagline doesn’t tell you is that we have already faced these so called ‘faces’ of the society in countless films before and they don’t have any face value for today’s viewer.
Seriously, we expected much more from this alleged political satire.
Maybe it’s the problem of heightened expectations from Agni Shridhar’s script that let us down in the end. For a man who has witnessed various dark aspects of our society from multiple interesting angles, we expected Shridhar to expose a few more dirty secrets in his film; but that was not to be in Kallara Santhe. Agni Shridhar’s script reveals nothing more than what we ordinary souls have already learnt by reading the newspapers and watching the television.
Kallara Santhe tells the dragging story of a young, idealistic man who finds it difficult to lead an honest life in a society filled with characters played by Rangayana Raghus’ and Shobhrajs’ (read corrupt politicians and rowdies). The film tries its best to depict a serious subject with a dash of humor which falls flat on its face. Kallara Santhe religiously follows stereotypical characterizations of politicians, goondas, and policemen and doesn’t tell you even an iota more than what you already know about these people. For a change, how about showing an intelligent politician who doesn’t act like a buffoon? Is that too much creativity to ask for?
Sumana Kittur’s direction, which rested in on a tight script from Agni Shridhar in Slum Bala, goes haywire in Kallara Santhe without that lifeline. There is nothing in her direction that makes you take notice as she narrates this allegedly realistic subject in an irritatingly melodramatic way. The biggest problem with Kallara Santhe is that none of the events or the characters touch you in any way; and consequently, neither does the film.
Yash does a neat job in a role that neither evokes sympathy nor earns respect. Haripriya looks cute and her need for this realistic film is only limited to that. The girl can go places if someone gives her a better opportunity. Rangayana Raghu and his band of politicians are just what Sumana ordered and Sundarnath Suvarna’s cinematography stubbornly refuses to rise above the mediocrity that has engulfed this film.
Sudha belavadi has about three dialogues in the film; but this is one of the most different roles she has essayed on screen for a long time. The lady who has been content playing doting mother to heroes plays the role of a minister with a mischievous suggestion of flirt in her eyes, and it’s refreshing to watch.
On a whole, we expected a lot more from this film and in the end; we felt that our intelligence had been shortchanged in a film that was promoted as an intelligent spoof on our current system.

Kallara Santhe is one of the best movie in kannada films. Sumana is a director who is trying out of formulas, and we should encourage her. SLUM BALA is a neat movie made by her anyways with help of Sridhar. Pair of yash and Haripriya is very good. Haripriya can become a finest actress in kannada if she gets some inputs from great people. V.Manohar sir please try to compete with other music directors to hold your seat in this industry. my rating for the movie out o 5 is 4.
Songs are not upto mark otherwise good in content and entertainments.
Kallara santhe .. is good time pass movie.. if u go without any expectations.. far better than the normal formula films.. gives good insight into lot of current political and social issues…haripriya is really cute..
Yash acting is good.. Watchable actor… Political sattire innu chennagi barbeku, swalpa amateurish aagide… Maybe, directors need to learn from ace movie maker Guru Prasad…
Political l sattire movie.
Again Raju got it wrong with the review, i do the think there are moments in the movie where you really appriciate the effort and acting behind it.. Its a new kind of story telling for kannada industry.. Few scenes will make you laugh and there are moments where you will feel you should also contribute to change the society in the way the hero thinks.. Its an really good effort from the sumana in the direction…It truly deserves anywhere between 3-4 out of 5.
a very beautifully directed film for kannada lovers, just watch the movie for a legendary song bannada tagadina tutturi, dialogues cant match with agni sridhar,.. 100 days guaranteed
The review on BT is completely in contrast with the feedback i got from the people who watched the movie.. I think we shouldn’t take the reviews on this site seriously..
Well, wat i heard KALLARA SANTHE is a very good watch..
So, i will watch it soon…
its an awesome fils , it may be bad for people who support the current govt of karnataka…its a very good film..a mirror of whats happening in karnataka
Mattondu dabba filmu… In my opinion, only “Director’s Special” and “Super” are the movies to watch out for… And to some extent “Sugreeva”, if it’s well made….
You are right. It drags big time. Flop after flop.
Sumana can never be a director. Basics are
missing.
making good commercial films is not everybody’s cup of cofee.
