Stereotype

Movie Review By Raju Shanbhag

malebille

Mahesh Sukhadhare’s Malebille is a stereotype personified in every aspect of filmmaking from the first frame to last frame. Just to let you know how predictable the story and the treatment are, here is a small quiz for those who have not seen the movie. If you get more than 2 answers wrong, go watch Malebille. You deserve it.

1] In the beginning of the story, the hero is taking pictures of different sceneries in a picturesque locale. Then he spots:

        a. Antarctica Bear

        b. A hapless film producer

        c. Heroine bathing under a waterfall

2] Upon seeing the heroine bathing (oops, gave away one answer, won’t tell which one though!), the hero:

        a. Sprints towards her to cover her with clothes

        b. Gets back to nature photography

        c. Belts out a song in her praise

3] The hero and the heroine are fighting with each other from the beginning of the movie till the climax. In the climax

        a. They announce unconditional ceasefire

        b. Appoint goons to beat up each other to the pulp

        c. Their hatred turns into love

MaleBille04

4] The hero has a group of friends. All of them are:

        a. Scientists

        b. Terrorists

        c. Buffoons

Hint: One of the friends is Sharan

5] Diganth comes only after the interval in the film. He is:

        a. Prajna’s (heroine) long lost brother

        b. Her insurance agent

        c. Her would be lover who brings an unnecessary twist in the tale

6] In the climax, Diganth

        a. Fights with Akshay for Prajna

        b. Let Akshay and Prajna fight with each other

        c. Gives up Prajna for Akshay

Hint: Remember Salman Khan’s role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai?

7] The hero Akshay is:

        a. A guy with lots of grey shades

        b. A misunderstood genius

        c. A simple guy with a heart of gold

8] Finally how many movies with similar stories and same treatment have we seen so far?

        a. 150

        b. 1050

        c. I have better things to do than to count this

The answer to every question is C. Predictable? Ha Ha!

Best movie review I have seen till date…. KFI needs to come out of these stereotypes that are as ancient as the monuments in Hampi..Keep Writing…

I think Bellitere is the only site that publishes honest movie reviews of Kannada movies. Almost 95% (or more) are trashes…. No wonder nobody watches Kannada movies these days…. These movie makers are extremely dumb (school dropouts, rowdys, mafia people etc.) and they think that Karnataka audience is also dumb, and churn out trashy movies.. In 2009, there were 103 Kannada movies released and only 3 or 4 were hits (not according to paid fanboys)…

i had to see the review as the rating was given 1/5 on the homepage, damn it was a good review(the funny side of it), i liked it. its always depressing to visit this website as there is not even one good kannada movie review, i have been a regular follower of the reviews and when i jog down my memory i dont see many movies getting above 3 , i mean just see the volume of movies getting released and the number of movies that are commercial success, the conversion factor is very low. at this rate i feel the kannada film industry will phase out within 2015. pls hep !!!

Pooja, a reviewer does not have to keep anybody in mind. He just represents his views on a movie. If he is just plain bored watching a movie for two and half hours, he will be sarcastic about it, based on his attitude towards the moie and the degree of creativity he possesses. Merely stating the good and bad points of a movie is as bad as making a highly uninteresting films with stereotype narration!

@ sanjay : yes what ur sayin is right but its really not right on d reviewer to make a joke out of any movie. A reviewer represents d public but its not rite to give the public a wrong image. i liked the movie and the music and the performance of the stars are also good! and this is my opinion and each one’s opinion differs. but the reviewer should keep in mind all the people as they are the one’s who influence people’s mind.

@Pooja, should the movie viewers also be trained in Film-Direction??? As for as my understanding goes, movies are made for common public and reviewer represents common public’s point of view.. But u seem to suggest otherwise.
