Manasaare Music Review

Audio Review by Hitha

Manasare Mano Murthy maybe young at heart and this music album is just about to prove that out right. The moods vary with the songs; every song has a lively youthful touch to it. This album has a majority of calm songs that may appeal many; it also has two energetic songs. Jayanth Kaikini and Yograj Bhat team up to do a fabulous job with the lyrics. Its time Mano Murthy’s music might be back again, the kind that is original and not a mélange of other’s creations. The music is totally something to look forward to.

Ondu Kanasu: An energetic and attention grabbing song. The rap raises the expectation of the song and the tempo increases, the entire song manages too keep up the tempo. Kunal Ganjawala doesn’t cease to impress you; his modulation is excellent and is definitely stiff competition for the equally talented Ananya Bhagat. Damn good start for a youthful album.

Ello Malayaagideyendu: The song starts off really well until it encapsulates the romantic in you. This song flushes your memory with calmness. Mano Murthy realizes the importance of the not-too-dull-not-too-jarring genre of songs. After having experimented with Mungaru Male he knows what plays well. The lyrics are clear and simple -truly Jayant Kaikini style. Sonu Nigam of course needs no introduction to his work; the originally-Hindi singer does a neat job with every bit of the song.

Kanna Haniyondige: The voices perfectly suit the classic Mano Murthy composition. K.K does a piece with his deep voice that it sounds perfect for the caprice of the song. The Shreya Ghoshal effect starts the song really well. The violin creates the vital essence in the song. The perfectionist in Yograj is reflected here as well with utmost precision; the lyrics go hand in glove with the music and the voices.

Manasare

Onde Ninna: The Mexican beats start the song with a peppy tune, the song is just above average thanks to the simplistic Sonu Nigam and Jayant Kaikini combination. The lyrics have some creative metaphors to watch out for. Sonu’s voice by hook or crook suits the mature (in Manasaare only) Diganth. This song does face fierce competition from the other tracks in the same album.

Naa Naguva Modele: An awesome start. It seems like the flip-side of a DJ composition. Mano Murthy’s slow song never ceases the liveliness nor does it sound hyper energetic. Shreya Ghoshal’s pitch goes so low at certain parts in the song that you can’t hear the lyrics. But apart from that the peaceful song seems to gel best with Shreya‘s voice.

Naanu Manasaare: This song is totally contradistinct, the background music is almost absent through most of the song. The only effect the voices have been treated to is reverb. This short song seems like an experimental vocal piece and challenges the singers. Lakshmi Nagaraj and Vikas Vashishta may sound reiterated but that lies in the lyrics, but the justice done by the singers receives at least four stars.

Sahanavavatu: This rejuvenated shloka sounds good but, doesn’t really fit into the album but, maybe it fits really well in the movie. Vijay Prakash’s voice needs to be a little lower pitched and needs more power. This is one piece that stands out as the odd one in the album. Mano Murthy’s characteristic touch is not very evident. It is a unique piece though.

A disappointment. My rating is 2 stars out of 3. Sure it is inhuman to expect that all music by Mano be as good as Mungaru. But the alleged great combo of the so-called great director and Mano should have at a minumum produced an above average album. It is not the case.

    1) In an interview it is claimed by Mano and the director that the music is “haunting”. I am afraid that is not the case. More haunting music have been produced before.
    2) Like almost all Mano music, all songs and their compositions appear derivative. Mind you derivative is not a copy but it is not entirely original. You always get the feeling that you have heard some aspects of it before.
    3) One song starts with latin flavor and switches to something derivative once the lyrics set in.
    4) Another begins with a Kenny G-ish instrumental and switches to something else.
    5) Why they use that nasal twang singer (Kunjal/Ginjal ??) who sounds like an old man ? Stupid.

Bottom Line : Even in his so-so albums, Mano used to have atleast one good composition that stood out. In others atlleast two or three were worth it (Example – Milana). But in Manasare, none stay in your mind for long. I have already deleted the entire album from my Nano.
Mano should do two or three movies a year and aim for quality instead of quantity. This guy is supposed to have lived in the USA. Did he not learn anything ??? A tragic shame.

Songs are good in Manasaare and NBN album. Manomurthy has done good job. However its enough Mr. Manomurthy, i am taking pain to tell you that you are too much relying on saxophone and guitar. Almost all tunes in your previous works sounds similar. I am getting bored of it. Please try different instruments atleast in future.

  14. Raga on September 5th, 2009 11:31 am

Manasare , for me is on par with Mungaru Male ! No less !

Extremely happy with the quality of the songs. High quality lyrics, tunes, excellent singing pushing this into the “Evergreen” category .

If you go by Yograj Bhat’s comment on this movie “this movie is the Best till date from him”, this is surely going to create history again !

All the Best for the Movie !

Manasaare is an average album, when compared to Neene bari neene of Sonu.Looks like they want to go with that tested formula for all yograj films.
2 sonu songs,2 shreya songs and 1 kunal song.Few heartbreak numbers. Some hip hop indoor songs. But here they have a yuck picturisation with Neetoo.
Ello male and kanna hani looks good, but not worth remebering for a long time.
Meanwhile sonu got his attention on new album, thanks to some melody and nice picturisation.Mano murthy being given his full authority i guess.Cheers to Sonu,Kheny,Murthy and Kaikini.

What an album !!! Great songs..Just listen to Neene Bari neene. Atleast 5 songs are great songs
    1) Baa Nodu Gelati
    2) Haaduntu Namma Naadali (rock song)
    3) Naa Ninagaagi
    4) Neene bari Neene
    5) Ideye Ninage samaya
The rest are good as well. That tells a big difference between ManoM and other music directors. Its just not sonu nigam or MM or JK. Its all three. Long live this combo. Long live kannada…
Bellitere please post a review on Neene bari neene

Manomurthy, Jayant Kaikini, Harsha and Sonu Nigam is a wonderful combination..

  23. Shivu on August 22nd, 2009 5:52 pm

I think manomurthy is being compared to some stupid tamil MDs who really are a bunch of copycats…they really are shameless !!!!! ILLayarau and ar rahman all create songs from the same tune by sound engineering…Listen to tamil movie song paakade paakade bears resemblence to yaayire yaayire from rangeela…again saatiya movie tune resembles guzaarish. He also directly has directly lifted several songs..For those who want to critize him are big time loosers….go get a life..he certainly is not a small time music director

  24. Sanjeev on August 22nd, 2009 2:09 pm

Why people are behind Mano Murthy to blame him for repeated tunes….i will give example of Rahman’s two songs……End up listening to Kabhi Kabhi Aditi song from Jaane Tu____movie and begin listening to Gujarish Song from Ghajini after first stanza…there is uncanny resemblance to tune and BGM…..every body recycles their old songs…not only Mano Murthy….

  25. Raju on August 22nd, 2009 11:52 am

If we listen Rahman’s Kabhi Kabhi Aditi song and Guzarish song from Ghajini movie, we can trace similarities in tune and background music…..why single out Manomurthy…..instruments used by Manomurthy are different than he used to earlier…

  26. karthik on August 21st, 2009 11:34 pm

    good album.
Deviprasad and harris jayaraj are not better than mano murthy.(this is a joke)
yes ARR and Ilayaraja is a better but mano murthy has his style(bit of Madan Mohan of Hindi Films)
awesome slow killing melodies –>thats his trademarks.
moreover i feel this movie is not musical like MM.

  27. SRP on August 21st, 2009 4:08 am

Ello Maleyagide is very good.. reminds me of “sooraj hua maddham” ..

  28. Naveen on August 21st, 2009 12:16 am

The songs are melodious and a very few people dont like melody. One remarkable thing in this album in the clean and fantastic lyrics which you cannot find elsewhere. Its the magic of Jayanth and Yograj and nobody can even think of such lyrical words and linkages. simply superb. Hope the songs and movie picturization and story would stand tall with music.

Its evident that Mano Murthy cant give fast numbers with varying music and instruments. But he is a melody king.

Harikrishna and Arjun on the other hand are wonderful in composing music and tunes and are just below par with Mano Murthy. These three people will be the gems of kannada music in the next decade.

  29. Sumanth on August 20th, 2009 7:47 pm

I found the album very good.. Mano moorthy has come up with a great album again. Ello maleyagide a brilliant one from Sonu nigam. Na naguva modalene shows the greatness of Shreya and her pronunciation of kannada is far better compared to few people(For ex: Prem).. The hip hop song Ondu kanasu is a nice one too.. You will start liking this once you here it for 3-4 times.. The title song or i am assuming it to be title song Naanu manasaare from two young and upcoming singers is also very good.. Lakshmi Nagaraj has sung well.. Kanna hani song has some good lyrics from YB.. Overall it s a nice album and will definitely a hit. I am eagerly waiting for the movie……

  31. Deepak on August 20th, 2009 1:51 pm

One of the best album in 2009 after MM. According to me all the song are nice. Hats off to Sonu, Shreya and our own Manu morthy. As Mr. Prasanna told the Ello maleyagide will be anthem of all Kannadigas, Mr. Santosh pls shut ur mounth and ,,,,,,,,,,
    Truly awesome audio,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Songs have shades of Manomurthy’s previous compositions…i thought Yograj Bhat has musical sense….he too proved wrong..

  34. Aradya on August 20th, 2009 8:00 am

Another good album by manomurthy..really like “Ello maleyagide” and “Naa Naguva”….they are really very melodious

  35. latha on August 20th, 2009 7:35 am

Its below Average. Mano Murthy is crazy, he keeps repeating same tunes over and over. The secret behind MM, Milana and CC is Not Mano Murthy Himself. Its his Assitant MD Prayog.

  36. box office on August 20th, 2009 5:28 am

Mani Sharma btw copied song in the movie “Praja Rajyam” from a Pakistani song !! You call him a league. I agree if he copied any western tune, but not a Pakistani song…that too a direct lift..
Coming to Harris Jayaraj..please play this youtube video
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIuZpeegoIY&feature=related
I hope I don’t need to justify..manomurthy is a Man with ethics..He has agreed that he’s used Joshua Sridhar’s song in Cheluvina Chitthara and quoted it in the album
There are lots of examples online for ARR and Ilayaraja.(not recently though).however they are really the best we have
Similarly he has used one song of ARR in Moggina manasu and has agreed that it was inspired

    My opinion
We as Indians need to be credible and take credit for what we did…Manasaare album may not have the best tunes in the world but they are 100% original even if they are recyled

  37. box office on August 20th, 2009 4:55 am

I do not agree that except ARR and ILLAyarajaa the other two are hugely dependant on western music and they heavily copy stuff from others. …there are several tunes that you can find online..all you need to do is google his name with copy cat next to it..and Devishri prasad what the heck ??I think he’s overrated..sangama songs are below average..BTW I did not compare these music directors (ARR or ilayarajaa) to manomurthy it was just an analogy

  38. Mahesh on August 20th, 2009 1:59 am

Well.. Mano Murthy(for that matter any Kannada music director) is nowhere near ARR, Harris Jayraj, and Devishree Prasad league. Mungaru Male was at most a beautiful accident which in all likelyhood he’d not be able to recreate. But he’s a very good small time music director and the success of his songs largely depend on how the movie fares. His songs does have the capacity to set in a mood and the songs will become massive hit if the movie also does the same act.

  39. Vilas R.Naganur on August 20th, 2009 12:47 am

As Santosh pointed out, the song “Ello Malayaagideyendu” starts with a very gud instrument-Tarang, but the melody is not in sync with the music though lyric is alright.
llly for “Naa Naguva Modele” song also..
Usually Manomurthy makes use of Tarang instrument very often in his songs, but it should not be everytime. “Something different” should be the mantra of any music director only then he can attract new listener n retain his fan base..Guys correct me if m wrong..

  40. Vilas R.Naganur on August 20th, 2009 12:36 am

Think Manomurthy has benchmarked himself so high that he is not able to recreate his musical scores like MM, Milana, Cheluvina Chittaara again. Its very wrong to compare music directors of different language n Industry’s with ours, but atleast we can guage the pulse and follow the current trends and certainly going by the standards set by ARR, Ilayaraja, Harris Jayaraj, Mani Sharma n Devishri Prasad, namma Manomurthy has to improve a lot..

In short, Manasaare’s songs for which i was eagerly awaiting are atleast not in my “must listen to list” in kannada.

  41. box office on August 19th, 2009 11:46 pm

I dont agree with the comments. Its better than other albums and according to me deserves 4.5 out of 5. This is original work by a good MD and needs to be lauded..there are other copy cats in the industry like Harikrishna, sadu kokila, who keep copying stuff from other people…we must really credit this MD..The so called “signature” can be noticed in ARR too who repeat the same stuff sometimes

  42. Suresh Kumar on August 19th, 2009 10:08 pm

I agree with Santosh. If we see the songs naked of its lyrics, it will remind us of songs from the music directors earlier albums. Yups…. 2.5 stars…. lacks the magic of mungaru male or galipata. Seems Abhay has better music..

  43. Kannadiga on August 19th, 2009 6:36 pm

Kanna Haniyondige and Naa Naguva Modele songs are very nice. Shreya Goshal has created a magic by singing these songs. Her kannada pronounication is better than any kannada singers as well. No one can match her voice in India itself.

  44. Santosh on August 19th, 2009 1:44 pm

Its a Avg Album, Ello Malayaagideyendu starts with very nice Music, Its simply Superb.
But if we listen to songs apart from Lyrics, The background Music with constant beats resembles of those MM, Milana, Geleya Etc of Mano Murthy.
I think he is having few musical instuments, The typical Mano’s style.
My personnal View about this album is 2.5 stars.
But it depends from Person to person.
In the last two and half years Music Dept have made good improvement in KFI.
Very good Music albums have come which are worth listining.
Cinematography have even improved a lot.

Directors are giving more importance to these depts negelecting story.

  45. Shashank on August 19th, 2009 11:12 am

    wonderful album

  46. Prasanna on August 19th, 2009 9:39 am

    Nice casual review..
Ello Malayaagideyendu will be the anthem for lovers for next one year..
