Moggina Manasu

July 22nd, 2008 at 7:39 pm

Moggina-Manasu Inspired by the huge success of his earlier movie, Mungaru Male, E.Krishnappa has produced this movie with so many newcomers. But this time, the director is not Yograj Bhat. It might turn out to be a big difference. The slogan of the movie in the form of caution is very cheap. We hope movie will not be as cheap as it’s slogan! One of the major reasons for the success of Mungaru Male was that it’s story and treatment had a great appeal to class audiences. In fact, it brought back the class audiences to the theatre who had completely written off Kannada movies. But E. Krishnappa might have concluded that Mungaru Male became a big hit because it had newcomers in it! By such cheap slogans, E.Krishnappa is advising the class audiences to stay away from this movie!

Moggina Manasu Release Update: Moggina Manasu is finally getting released on 18-JUL-08. It had got into problems because the Karnataka Censor Board had issued “A” certification. Producer E.Krishnappa had appealed to the central tribunal court and got it cleared with “U/A” certification.(Dated: 04-Jul-08)

Moggina Manasu may not get released in the month of April. Producer, E-Krishnappa has appealed the Karnataka State Sensor’s decision to give “A” certification to this movie to the Delhi Cetnral Tribunal. Generally it takes about a month to get any decision from the Delhi Tribunal.

Moggina Manasu Movie Review By Raju Shanbhag

Box Office: Average. Even though it got excellent opening, had trouble in sustaining in the latter weeks.

There haven’t been many Kannada films in the recent past that generated so much hype even before they released. Moggina Manasu has been in the making for ages and in the news for both the right and wrong reasons. And finally when the film is released, the big question on everyone’s mind; does it meet all the expectations and the hype that have haunted the movie for such a long time?

Moggina-Manasu Tell you what, it almost does! Like the smell of fresh paint on a white, clean canvas, Moggina Manasu grows on you as you let yourself be immersed in the movie. It starts off as any other movie, threatening to rip off all the hype and hoopla surrounding it. But as the story develops, and as director Shashank establishes the major characters, his narrative and Chandrashekhar’s beautiful camerawork manage to win you over. Whatever is the fate of Moggina Manasu, it will certainly be remembered as a movie that had a fresh approach towards telling an age old story.

So what works for Moggina Manasu? Although it’s a combination of various factors, one of the aspects of the film that stands out is director Shashank’s controlled narration of the story. The story of four teenage girls trying to come to terms with their age and feelings is the stuff melodramas are made of. But Shashank handles these scenes with amazing maturity. Watch out for the scenes where Radhika Pandit hugs her mother after she is terribly lonely and sleeps on her lap. And there are many scenes with TV star Rajesh, who gives a memorable performance as the lecturer.

Another element that works for the movie is its cinematography. Cinematographer Chandrashekhar captures the rustic beauty of coastal Karnataka which looks enchanting. The camera doesn’t poke its nose unnecessarily in any scene; yet its there, beautifully capturing the minds and hearts of four beautiful teenage girls. Mano Murthy’s soulful music is another high point of the film.

In the acting department, all four girls do a neat job. Radhika Pandit never lets you believe that it’s her first film. Other girls such as Sangeeta Shetty, Shubha Punja and Manasi are good too. Shubha Punja’s transformation from a simple village girl to a cosmopolitan babe should be seen to be believed. Others like Jai Jagadish, Sudha belawadi and Sharan look and play the part. Yash has given a good performance too, a performance that make you feel that the man is being wasted in the small screen.

But for a movie that had so many plus points, Shashank introduces some totally unnecessary elements that hamper the overall effect the movie. First in the list are Sharan’s neddless comedy sequences. Just because he is an imaginative character, it doesn’t give the director any rights to impose him upon the unsuspecting viewers when they least expect it. Also, the director who has handled entire film with such creativity could have done something better than tamely imitating the choreography and dress designing of Hindi film “Taal,” for Geleya Beku song. There are many places in the film when the use of animation is too obvious, which makes the narrative that much more unrealistic.

Also, Mr. Shashank, you are a talented director. So please stop giving stupid taglines such as “Watching this film may be injurious to boys’ hearts.” They look like unwanted stain on an otherwise neat film.

And of course, something that made us joyous; not often do you see a packed house in PVR for a Kannada film on a weekday afternoon. When we went to see the film in PVR this week, it was packed and it seemed as if all the moviegoers were headed in one direction; towards the auditorium where this movie was being screened. Congratulations for Shashank and his team for drawing in the young and hip up-market crowd to a Kannada film. Nice to see that this is happening on a regular basis in Kannada movies these days.

Go watch Moggina Manasu. It may not be sent to Oscar this year as its hype suggested. But it definitely won’t rob you of your hard earned money either!

This is a fantastic movie & i liked both Radhika’s & Yash’s acting. they both are like a made for each other. Before the film they were paired in one serial, Nandagokula, it was in E tv. They make a nice pair. we are looking for more movies in their combination & All the Best for their future Projects & especially I wish Yash for his future release movie Rakhi.

    All the Besttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt.

I agree with Bellitere review except about ur comments on Sharans comic scenes. It left the whole theatre in splits and I cant stop laughing at his jokes over and over again. His comic timing is just perfect. If you did not notice, all the jokes were kinda linked with Sangeetha shettys love story.

Its definitely a must watch for all movie lovers. Except for some not so perfect peformances by few newbies, its a very well made movie.

Its really a good movie…..one should watch it…. zealous there r some teenage girls who r sensitive even nw n the director has given a good msg

  17. ZEALOUS on July 26th, 2008 4:34 pm

    PART 2
Mr. Shashank, what is the fate of renuka devi, she should have used and contraseptive pills. Its not 1970, is girls so sensitive to that in these days? go and make a survey of teenagers whether thay are going to die if something happened to them like renuka devi – no one would die, even a 7th std girl knows what to do. Better u read dialy newspapers like vijaya karnataka frontpage bottem right ad. Unwanted-72 which appered for a month.

  18. ZEALOUS on July 26th, 2008 4:14 pm

Moggina Manasu – A good theme spoiled by director’s lack of common sense. If he had that he would have done the screen-play better. Hello Mr. Shashank, have you ever tried laying on road to blackmail a girl to love u? Try before visualise.
If u had tried that I would have not watched ur non-sense movie. No girl even pretend to love u if u lay on road.

    PART 1

It’s sad that SUCH A REFRESHING MOVIE MOGGINA MANASU has got released and there is no time for bellitere guys to update the review who are busy in developing and promoting hindi film site inside the so called kannada movie site!!

  22. Ranga on July 21st, 2008 12:43 pm

This is a SUPERB, FANTASTIC & REFRESHING MOVIE.. NOT TO BE MISSED AT ANY COST..

It gives a WONDERFUL FEEL coming out of the theatres.. Hats off to the entire team of director SHASHAANK, Producer KRISHNAPPA, CAMERAMAN, MUSICAL MAGICIAN MANO MURTHY & wait wait the CHARMING RADHIKA PANDITH..

I never thought I would enjoy this movie so much.. FIRST HALF SIMPLY FLEW OFF.. The first half an hour after the INTERVAL was a bit dragging, but from the story point those were all required.. Hats off to DIRECTOR SHASHANK..He has handled such DELICATE & INTRICATE topics in the movie without compromising the entertainment value at the same time not making any of the viewer to get embarassed.. Only a director who is DARE can handle such subjects..

RADHIKA PANDHITH, the main heroine of the movie is OUTSTANDING.. She carries the movie entirely on her shoulders.. Her acting, expression, body language is simply spectacular.. SHE IS REALLY THE SURPRISE PACKAGE OF THE MOVIE.. HATS off to the GUY WHO SELECTED HER FOR THAT ROLE..

One more guy who will strike you surprisingly is the ACTOR RAJESH (Preethi illada mEle RAMESH) as THE ENGLISH LECTURER.. He is the MAIN REASON in making this MOVIE SO DEAR TO ME.. He comes in only a FEW OF THE SCENES.. But, the dignity, the grace, the naturality he has brought to that role is simply stunning.. The way he gives lecture to the student who gives him the LOVE LETTER IS THE BEST SCENE of the movie .. At the same time, the dialogue he says 'demand eega kammi aagide' towards the end of the movie makes him so close to your heart..

After MUNGAARU MALE, CHELUVINA CHITTHAARA, MUSSANJE MAATHU.. this is the movie which made ME CHOKE AT MANY POINTS.. The HIGH POINT Of the MOVIE is the FEEL it gives throughout the movie .. There are many scenes which makes your heart warmer giving you sudden burst of happiness..

    SHARAN's COMEDY is also FANTASTIC..

What to say about MANO MURTHY's music?.. IT's a MAGIC.. I AM IN LOVE WITH EACH & EVERY SONG OF THE MOVIE.. THE 'I LOVE YOU ..' SONG AT THE CLIMAX IS AN EXHILERATING NUMBER.. What about 'Moggina Manasali oho ho.. ' , 'maLe baruva haagide ..' .. Sonu Nigam's 'I LOVE YOU..' WOULD RULE THE CHARTS in the coming weeks..

THIS IS A MUSICAL VISUAL TREAT.. As Nrupathunga put it, probably the MOST REFRESHING MOVIE after MUNGAARU MALE SUBJECT WISE & NARRATION WISE..

Oh! Ya, it’s quite possible!! It might be remake of Happy Days..

Moggina Manasu was supposed to be released today but it’s release has been postponed indefinitely because the sensor board has withheld the certificate. As per the Kannada Prabha reports, Sensor gave “A” certification to this movie which inturn pissed off the producer, E.Krishnappa. He supposedly had heated arguments with the sensor board. Sensor board inturn withheld the certification..

Got something to say?
