Lackluster Century!

Neenyaare…? music review By Suchitra Preetham

Neenyare V. Manohar celebrates his 100th musical venture in Sandalwood with Neenyare. But looks like this long innings have got him bored! The musical piece from Neenyare is totally faded in comparison to Manohar’s earlier tunes. Neenyare is a humdrum, dull and lifeless album. The Kaviraj pen can do no magic to give this album any length of breath, or for that matter even breadth (it’s a fiasco, totally flat!). The Bollywood boys (Oops koels) are in the league. There is Sonu Nigam, KK, Kunal Ganjawala along with namma B.R.Chaya, Chitra and Hemanth. Again, the golden voices seem to be lulled by eclipsed musical direction.

Ee Thuditha: Sonu Nigam’s trendily charismatic voice is à la mode in contemporary Sandalwood. However the allure of this voice in Ee Thuditha seems severely sprained, by V. Manohar’s musical tuditha going haywire. Kaviraj’s so-far-popular pen is a little tired on these notes! Neenyare’s title track paves way for the rest of the album’s inevitable crash! If you want to hear this one out, strap on your seat belt!

Super computer: For this one song, you could do with some head gear. Head gear that covers the ears will definitely help. KK sings about Haagalkai, avarekai, nellikai, menesinakai and every other kai! If curiosity can kill the cat, let the cat go. I am not sacrificing myself in figuring out why this song is titled Super Computer!

Nee andhareno: For you, why is there aathura? All else is besara! That’s Chitra’s all-brusquely crisp voice alright, but it is also me asking Manohar, why making such bejaru tunes?

Makharandha: Keep the head gear on! This prema prema song in Kunal Ganjawala’s voice in duet with an un-identified female singer, (lucky girl- who wants to be identified with this number anyway?) is not so harsh on the ears. It is the dull, dreary and lifeless lyrics of Kaviraj clubbed with the monotony of the tunes set in by Manohar that will bring rivers of tears to your ears!

Preethiyalli: This time it looks like Manohar had the head gear on while composing the tunes and the lyrics for this number! Hemanth cries out extremely painfully ‘Neenyare neenyare’. Hearing this one, my ears nearly writhed in pain. I am detailing my experiences to save you from the same!

Devarane Devaralli: This song has the melancholy; it is melancholy unleashed, unlimited! Kaviraj, known for his rather peppy lines seems to have drowned himself Devarane Devaralli. You won’t lose much if you keep the head gear on!

Varava needidha (bit) and Hrudayava (bit): Both these songs have a lot in common. They sound Siamese. They are sung by B.R. Chaya. The music is composed by V Manohar and written by V Manohar as well. Varava needidha and Hrudayava come as slices of songs. Nothing more to add except that my ears quite anaesthetized.
