Neenyare – Do you care?

Neenyaare Movie Review By Raju Shanbhag

neenyare There is a scene in the film Neenyare where the hero Suraj tries to hit a man. The air stops midair; people look stunned, camera is fixed and the guy who was about to be hit looks as if he just saw a speeding train hitting him. You will only understand beauty of the scene if you understand that the hero hasn’t hit the villain yet. He just threatens to hit, and things happen.

Scenes like this, coupled with director Sindesh’s irresistible urge to preach this moronic world, mar the film Ninyare which could at least have been a decent entertainer. There is an alleged suspense element in the film, which is the film’s biggest flaw. The icing on the cake comes when the hero, heroine, or whoever gets a chance to stand in front of the camera, slips into a preaching mode that make you look lustily at the exit door.

That doesn’t mean that the film has no good moments. There are some brilliantly executed scenes which make you look at Sindesh with hope, until he again slips into preaching mode or make the air, water and the earth stop just for the background effect. Take for example, the scene where the hero tries to save a car and the girl from falling off a cliff. The camera work in this scene is one of the best in recent times. But soon after that, our hero and his friends methodically kill all the fun in the scene by preaching endlessly to the crowd. Good for people who come to watch film shootings by leaving all their work!

The story is another element in the film that makes the exit door an interesting option. In his desire to make the story unique and interesting, director Sindesh takes away all the semblance of logic in it. In the end, Neenyare is neither a love story nor a ghost story. The film wanders somewhere in between, hoping that director Sindesh saves it from disaster. But just like the hero cannot save the girl and the car in spite of his best efforts, even Sindesh fails, in spite of his best efforts.

Suraj makes an honest effort to look sad and you’ll be happy with his effort. Ramya Barna, who has already put on weight, fluffs her cheeks even more in an effort to look spoilt. Sambhrama shows her face at the interval and keeps disappearing at inappropriate moments in the second half. Others actors are acceptable. Vishnuvardhan’s camera is among the highlights of the film.

Neenyare can be given a try only because of its beautiful cinematography. If you are not a big fan of camera work, you can give it a miss.

    Hello Raju,
Great to read your reviews every time! But could you please include a few sentences outlining the plot of the movie ? (I agree this is a tough task given that many of Sandalwood’s recent movies do not have one). A jist however, should suffice. Thanks!
