Pancharangi Music Review

August 19th, 2010 at 9:59 pm

BT Rating: ★★★½☆ (3.5/5)

Pancharangi – Pun, intended

pancharangi Not often do you see an album where the acrimony of the words scores over the melody of the tunes. With an unbridled license to whip his satirical hunter on every aspect of life, Bhat goes berserk in Pancharangi, splashing the vibrant hues of his unique humor all over the album. A large part of the rating for the album are for the lyrics, especially that of Yogaraj Bhat’s.

Lifu Ishtene [Chethan Sosca, Yograj Bhat, Ananya Bhagat, Akshata Ramnath]: It’s a known fact that when it comes to dry humor, YB tops the list, seriously! In this fantastically written opening song of the album, he winks at life from a wicked angle and the result is an outrageously derisive song. From our middle class beliefs about settling down in the life to the Vaastu based homes in Bangalore, anything and everything becomes cannon fodder to YB’s caustic pen. The tune is good, but who cares when the lyrics are so damn funny!

There is a Shloka version of the same song sung by Chethan Sosca and it is equally hilarious.

Udisuve Belakina Seereya [Sonu Nigam]: The wicked lyrical mocking of Lifu Ishtene makes way for a breezy melody with that surefire combination of Sonu Nigam, Jayant Kaikini and Manomurthy. May be this is that signature YB song where the heroine keeps floating in the background like a cursed angel and the hero with the unshaved face mouths his lines with a helpless smirk on his face. Typically YB! Ninneya Nalumeya is the female version of this song by Shreya Ghoshal which doesn’t harm the album in any which way.

pancharangi

Hudugaru Beku [Chethan Sosca, Shreya Ghoshal]: YB returns with vengeance to poke fun at those Romeos who drool over anything that moves in a midi. The lyrics are not bad, but they are not even a patch on Lifu Ishtene, but they still hang on with some foot tapping composition coming for their rescue. And of course, like many occasions earlier, we doubt if Shreya Ghoshal really has sung this song.

Arere Pancharangi [Chethan Sosca, Akshata Ramnath, Anuradha Bhat]: Don’t know why, but Jayant Kaikini doesn’t seem have mastered the art of sarcasm as naturally as he has mastered the art of romantic lyrics. The lyrics are good, but YB has set the standard so high in the opening song that it takes a real good effort to better that effort. That doesn’t happen in this song either with the words or with the tunes.

Pancharangi Haadugalu [Hemanth, Yograj Bhat]: As if playing with words are not enough, YB uses that deep voice of his to look at the college life from an acerbic angle. It’s just amazing to think how many career options YB has in the film industry. A director, lyricist and now, a voice over artist. In these days of precarious economy, it helps to have some options up your sleeves. The song has some good lyrics by the way!

I really liked Yograj Bhat’s Mungaru Male and Gaalipata. But Pancharangi was phenomenally disappointing. Throughout the film, I was searching for the story which features only at the end of the film. The rest is just a waste of time. My friend even tried to console me saying ‘This was already advertised as a movie without a story. It was my mistake to have tried finding it’. I agree dialogues should be good but if has to score over other things in the film like raktha kanneeru, eddelu manjunatha, etc. Pancharangi neither had such strong dialogues nor any other attributes to please the audience. We were just waiting to get out of the film. Also Yograj Bhat should shred egoisms and try doing some research on what should be done otherwise talented youngsters like Diganth will be wasted. Not sure how Ananthnag spent his valuable time for the movie!!!!

  12. vicky on September 1st, 2010 6:23 pm

Stop talking about Harikrishna ok.He is the leading & no.1 music director in the industry now.People who dont have good knowledge about music dont do comment simply.Harikrishna’s music & his sounding nobody can do in kannada industry.Apart from him ARJUN will do good music.composition & sounding too.HK is versatile music director, out of 10 up coming films atleast 6 will be HK.Pls check the data,Everybody wants him.Manomoorthy is out of the race let him go back to america.

  13. vicky on September 1st, 2010 6:10 pm

Really i felt bad about Yograj Bhat lyrics in Pancharangi mostly, he thought whatever he writes will become lyrics.he has totally loosen the sharpness & hold on lyrics. His Dialogues & screenplay should lift the movie!!Manomoorthy is out of focus he is no way in the race.Atleast manasare had 2 good songs but here nothing!!!!!

  14. ravishankar on August 30th, 2010 7:06 pm

YB loosing his sharpness of lyrics n music was not bad only..

  15. vinu on August 29th, 2010 5:43 pm

Bhat lyrics are slowing becoming too average and loosing lyrical values.

  16. hari on August 28th, 2010 8:13 am

Raju Shanbhag Please give good review u give more than 3.5 * for YB n PUNITH movies i think they gave some money to u. DISERVES PANCHARANGI(2.5) n JACKIE (2)

  17. sai shankar on August 27th, 2010 3:32 pm

nee sanihake bandare is a direct lift of Salman khan’s Yuvaraj’s track

  18. sai shankar on August 27th, 2010 3:31 pm

I agree. Manomurthy’s talent is being unrecognised. Just listen to ninnaya nalumeya. Such a beautiful orchestration. This song is not for low class people. He has used such beautiful instruments. Even 20 yrs down the road this song will still be liked.
Harikrishna is a big copycat. He has copied songs and won awards for those songs as well. He is just overhyped

  19. vinay on August 27th, 2010 2:58 pm

Manomurthy is one of the best music directors in kannada industry at present.
He is a trendsetter. MM’s tunes are original, unlike the copy cat harikrishna..title track of Navagraha is a direct lift of an english song..also nee sanihake bandare is a copy of hindi song sung by alka yagnik..am not able to find which are those original songs..have heard it just once..but am very sure he’s a copy cat…
Whereas M.Murthy’s song yava mohana murali kareyitho from america america went on to suppress the bhavageethe yava mohana sung by ratnamala prakash…

Without any doubts, MM is the best!!

  20. KFI on August 26th, 2010 7:06 am

    @Layota,
IMHO, Harikrishna has become one of the worst music directors nowadays. His earlier compositions were good. But, now all his songs in Challenging Star movies are very difficult to digest. All Challenging Star songs sound same. “Pancharangi” music is immensely better than many trashes that HK is churning out nowadays. Maybe this can be attributed to clever lyrics of Yogaraj Bhat as well.

  21. Sumanth on August 25th, 2010 8:38 pm

Life istene song has good lyrics compared to music… Ninnaya nalumeya usual mano murthy melody like it because of shreya ghoshal voice… Hudugaru beku song is ok again lyrics is different but i like the variations shreya has given in that song..

  22. Ramu on August 25th, 2010 7:16 am

    @Latoya
Can you tell me what is recycled by Manomurthy in Pancharangi and Manasaare. They are much better quality than HK who shamelessly waits to copy from Tamil and Hindi directly

  23. Shankru on August 24th, 2010 5:52 pm

Udisuve belkina sireya song is awesome sonu nigam rocks always

  24. Vinodh on August 24th, 2010 1:02 pm

@Layota I agree with you HARIKRISHNA orchestra and quality of music is best in KFI.. I am not against any1 tho..

I had gone to buy BOSE speakers, they were demonstrating english songs and I asked them to play RAJ movie songs which was in my iPod, they were taken for a surprise listening to the good quality of the music..

  25. Layota on August 24th, 2010 11:50 am

    It deserves 1.5

    I call him MONO MURTHY.
    - He Recycles the same tune over and over…
    - See the Orchestra from Harikrishna, It looks better..

  26. kumar on August 23rd, 2010 1:06 am

prolly a break of few months has done mano murthi a world of good….

  27. Prakash HP on August 22nd, 2010 4:55 am

Life istena is like Modern day Mankuthimanna Kagga… :)

  34. mana on August 20th, 2010 3:40 pm

The music is one of the best,. This is not for Padde hudugaru. MMs music has a lot of intricate details which people fail to understand. This album will probably be the best album of the year

  35. santosh on August 20th, 2010 3:40 pm

songs are good instead of all “lifu istene” song is extrodinary i like degant very much in that song he looks very cute………………

  36. Sridhar on August 20th, 2010 12:21 pm

Superb album! It’s for the class audience! Not many will like it!

I loved every song in the album. BTW I don’t understand what made Raju wonder whether SG has sung Hudugaru beKu. She has given life to that song!

  37. Vinodh on August 20th, 2010 11:07 am

wat abt eno othara music review?

  38. Santosh on August 20th, 2010 10:07 am

Not good Album, One song is good, Raju Shanbhag Please give good review, Don’t give 3.5 because it belongs to YB and MM. Give Honest Reviews. I have not seen the review of GUBBI, which is chart buster. I have not seen Raju Shanbhag reviewing ARJUN’s Music. Very rare. Very talented MUSIC Director presently.
What is MM, he repeats the same type of tunes with same instruments.
