Papillon, Anyone?

April 26th, 2009 at 7:45 pm

Papillon Launch For those wannabe writers who walk in to the narrow and dingy lanes of Gandhinagar with star-struck eyes, the realistic story of the film industry is often hard to digest. Sighting a director or a producer can be as easy as sighting an oasis in the desert. And even if you do manage to find some, they don’t exactly jump with joy listening to your masterpiece-waiting-to-happen.

Funnily, it’s not as if the film industry folks in Gandhinagar are flooded with earth shattering concepts every other day. Good stories and good writers are hard to come by, and each producer and director is often busy remaking the hits from other languages because as they say, “there are no good stories in Kannada”

With its modern solution to ancient problem, Papillon Entertainment Network claims to bridge this gap between the writers and the filmmakers. In simpler terms, the company has set up a web site for the aspiring writers where they can register their stories for the filmmakers who hang around the site looking for stories. You can upload the stories after registering yourself at http://www.papillon.in and paying a fee (there are various options to chose from).

While this is a novel idea that needs a special pat on the back, it still remains to be seen how a largely orthodox industry such as KFI will react to the idea of sourcing for the stories online. For long, KFI and internet have been as different as chalk and cheese but happily, all that’s changing fast.

Hope that Papillon has made an entry in a good time; and hope that the concept works!

It’s a very good opportunity for writers and a database for film-makers.. Hope it’ll bring a fresh breath of air to the stinking KFI.
