Patre Loves Padma

August 6th, 2008 at 4:59 pm

PatreLovesPadmaThe posters of the film look astonishingly promising, and at the same time, the name, Patre Loves Padma looks highly incongruous to such high quality stills. Debutant director Chandrashekhar Srivatsav assured us that film will not disappoint either in its treatment or in the subject. Looking at the promising stills of Patre Loves Padma, we hope that he’s right!

Although Chandrashekhar Srivatsav is a debutant as a director, he has worked with some of the renowned names in the industry. He has worked as an assistant cameraman to the likes of Dinesh Babu and P.K.H Das. Also, he worked as an assistant director to people like David and B.C Patil. Well, you now know why the quality of cinematography looks so excellent in the film! Chandrashekhar Srivatsav says the film is about the loyalty in love. We are only looking for some loyalty from the debutant director towards the very art of filmmaking! The debutant actor, Ajith looks good too and definately a hero material with his impressive height and good physique. Just need to see whether he can act too..

Patre Loves Padma Audio(Music) Review By Raju Shanbhag – raju@bellitere.com

The posters of Patre Loves Padma show a drunken man floundering on the streets, presumably in love (not with the streets!). The situation looked hopeless, and the director-cum-lyricist Chandrashekhar Srivastav quashes all the hopes of redemption for the lover with his pathetic lyrics. When we say pathetic, we are not talking about the quality of the lyrics, which serve the purpose; but we are amazed at the begging and wooing that goes on in some of the songs. Now, it’s the director’s prerogative to narrate a story the way he wants; but after an overbearing Upendra who screamed “Preetse, preetse,” some years ago, this seems to be the opposite extreme of the same emotion. You decide!

PatreLovesPadmaAudioRvw Elli Anta: Where do I find good Kannada boys and girls, wails the singer duo of Gururaj Hoskote and Chaitra. But after listening to this song, we felt that both of them need to look for a good lyricist first. Lyricist Chandrashekhar Srivastav’s mischievous pen explores the depths of human anatomy with lines that border on obscenity. But music director Arjun almost makes up for the lack of quality in lyrics with a chirpy track.

Hingyake Hingyake: Srinivas, Chitra and Anuradha Sriram set out to understand the depth and breadth of love with this song, asking ancient questions about love and examining its symptoms with a detective like approach. You can join this quest if interested, as the tune has a touch of melancholy to it that almost sucks you in.

Kai Mugive: Disjointed blabbers of a forlorn lover at its pathetic best! As Srinivas renders this song, denuding the contents of his lyricist’s heart, you can see the pictures of all the helpless lovers of this world, begging for love, kneeling in front of their loved objects. This song has the miserable potential to be the unofficial anthem of all the abandoned lovers in the world.

Hey Hudugi: After an embarrassing five minutes of shameless groveling, Chandrashekhar Srivastava gets manly and sets out to woo a girl like a real man with some self respect. The brave man now has a peppy tune and charged up Rajesh Krishnan giving him the much needed support. Arjun’s tune threatens to be melodious; but the threat is not carried out in its totality.

Novina Butti: It’s the pricking emotion of pain that finally shows the right path for lyricist Chandrashekhar Srivastava and music director Arjun. This is easily the best of the lot, with a tune that stirs your heart in the very first listening. Shankar Mahadevan provides a soulful rendering of the song and Chandrashekhar Srivastava’s lyrics seem right for the first time in the album. Patre loves pain!

Padu Nodiro: B. Jayashree’s strained voice hauls in the beginning and the song threatens to be another gloomy affair. But then, C. Ashwath takes over, accompanied by some cheerful beats. With some chorus joining in the ride, the song pokes fun at the people in love. But then, Chandrashekhar Srivastava seems to inadvertently direct much of this humor towards himself, laughing at the songs he wrote earlier for the album. If that’s indeed the case, we can only say that the self realization came a bit too late! The tune may appeal to some section of the listeners, and we really don’t know which section!

“elli antha hudukali naa kannadada chitra”
