Phoonk II – Before the horror, comes the chaos!
Chaos, confusion and mystery surrounds the making of Phoonk 2, a sequel to Ram Gopal Varma’s prequel Phoonk, starring Sudeep, which was released sometime back.
First, the producer of Phoonk-I, Azam Khan announced (in Dec 2008) that Phoonk would have a sequel, but added a rider that RGV would not direct it, but that the prequel’s writer Milind Gadagkar would don that cap. Before making this announcement, he had even invited suggestions from the aam junta to submit their ideas to work Phoonk 2 around.
Incidentally, with RGV not directing this movie, a rumor that Ramu was being dropped because of the high fees he commands was making the rounds. But Azam Khan tried to nip this rumour in the bud itself saying, “The director had been finalised when Phoonk was released six months ago. We’d like to save Ramu for bigger projects.”
But nearly a year later comes the shocker.
Earlier this month, at a Phoonk 2 press meet Ramu introduced Prashant Burra and P Chandrashekhar as the new producers of the sequel, which will be dubbed in Tamil and Telugu, apart from of course Hindi. Azam Khan is suddenly out of the picture and it appears that Azam Khan himself got the chop.
But Varma appeared to have warmed up to the idea. Here’s some RGV speak: "He (Gadagkar) worked with me in Phoonk and he wrote the script for this sequel. So I entrusted him the job of directing it too.”
Well, considering all the chopping and changing thats happening around the making of this horror mystery sequel, we hope Sudeep will emerge unscathed.
RGV promises Phoonk-II to be inspired by Japanese and Korean horror films. So rest assured it won’t be the usual remake of Hollywood films, which we are so used see in RGV movies (sic).
And in Phoonk-II, the ghost prefers to slip itself inside Sudeep’s wife’s body, instead of the daughter in the first part. Well, let’s hope no one chops and changes the poor ghost considering the recession and all.
