Porki Movie Review

Sometimes, it’s a real challenge to watch the movies of this challenging star. Porki is no exception as by the time you walk out of the theatre, you will be forced to challenge the laws of physics, the nature of human beings and the way the so called critics write bad things about a movie that makes you think in so many directions.
And they say commercial movies are not intellectually stimulating!
As you see, Porki is the remake of Telugu film Pokiri and the difference between the two films is as clear as their names. Datta (Darshan) is a freelance killer who blows off people’s heads for money before their faces can even be registered properly in the frame. In his free time, he dates the debutant Praneeta, dodges bullets and delivers deadly dialogues such as “Once I am committed, even I can’t stop myself!”
And critics say heroes can do anything in commercial movies!
But it’s not easy being a Challenging star. Apart from beating up baddies, he has to constantly ignore the nakhras and navels of two beautiful girls who are after him. One is Praneeta, who makes a sizzling debut in this movie, and another is Sangeeta Shetty, who sheds her glasses and clothes from Minugu and plays ‘Sangeeta the seductress’ in this movie.
And they say heroes always have it easy in commercial films!
Director M. D Shridhar religiously adapts the original movie frame by frame, bullet by bullet, kick by kick and punch by punch in Porki. Credits are due especially in places where he remembers even the clothing and location from the original film. Such reverence to the original work is not usually seen in any industry. Every scene, from two warring groups of rowdies to Darshan’s grand entry as a police officer (oops, we gave away the secret!) is faithfully replicated.
And the critics say there is no respect for original work in our industry!
Darshan dodges the bullets easily, but he cannot dodge the fact that he is no Mahesh Babu. But all is not lost on Darshan, as he exudes a rustic charm that’s appealing and assuring at the same time. If there are any reasons that make this movie worth a watch, it’s Darshan, along with Praneeta of course.
Praneeta makes her debut amidst a lot of bloodbath and rowdies, and you still can’t help noticing her. With her beauty and looks, it would be almost offensive to ask how she acts, but she does ok in that department too.
Sangeeta Shetty, the doting sister from Minugu, dons a gun her hand, bites her lips every time she casts her eyes on Darshan and carries off some outrageous dialogues and clothing with head held high. Kudos lady!
And then, there is a whole gang of character artists who face Darshan’s ire at various intervals. There is an irritating comedy track comprising of Sadhu Kokila, Sharan and Tennis Krishna. There is Ashish Vidyarthi, who seems irritated for having been called all the way from Mumbai for this role; there is Shobharaj, who looks every bit of a corrupt and lecherous cop.
And finally, critics say all the characters in commercial movies are similar! Damn with them!

making a remake is always risk…. because no one dare to appriciate effort of actor…opposite to original version actor……. still darshan is able to get appriciation equally to original version actor………… in other 2 remake versions were not able to get apriciation…

What about Manasaare, AaDinagalu, Milana etc ? They were not remakes. Just understand, remakes are OK as long as they are a minimum.
Darshan in that case is “challenged” and not challening star alva. Almost every movie is a remake except few same dance same music from Harikrishna alva.
Directors and Producers need not be mental..they just need to make use of tonnes of stories in the form of novels, but again screenplay is important which our directors are not good. They are ready to jump on anything that is ready made and cannot use their brain

If u guyz are opposing remakes why people are watching the Raam movie taking tickets in Black….That is also a remake…Comparing Mahesh Babu and Darshan….I dont what the hell the that MaheshBabu has done extra in Pokiri…I have watched both the moviez…Darshan did justice for his role and he is equivalent ot Mahesh Babu…Taking his looks,costumes,songs,fights and dialogue delivery…..Only problem is it has came in 3 languages and almost everyone has watched the movie in telugu ya tamil or atleast in Hindi…Porkhi is Good…Its watchable….
Remake is a remake its not original. Copying movies is “eating yengilu”. Proclaiming that yengillu oota in the trash is better is shameful. We need good swamake movies not inspired or scene to scene copied movies. Even songs are copied. The ********* Harikrishna copies tunes from various sources and makes his “own song”. All these are shameful acts. stop making Junk movies. We dont need 120 trash movies a year. We need 40 genuine movies a year.
Superb review…. This Challenging Star’s movies pose a real “challenge” to watch and survive… I wonder when he (along with Sudeep, Puneeth) stops making stupid remakes of stupid movies…
Actually 1 thing u forget, oorallella nanna porkhi andharu also suprb
the cinematography s also too good………….choreography 4 all songs r simply superb………..
each scene in the movie is a visual treat………..
I liked all the songs…………..especially heegu unta, sakkathaagavley n dheera dheera songs to the core…………superb choreography n picturization of all songs………..
If u ve seen vikramarkudu and then if u see veera madakari, u ll find the kan version pale n not upto the mark………..same in the case of okkadu n ajay……….
but if u ve seen bhadra n then see gaja also, u ll find tat kan version is on par with tel……..for me it was even better than tel one…………
Same in case of porki too……….wat salman khan n vijay weren’t able to do in hin n tamil versions of porki has been done by Darshan whose performance is on par with MB performance……….
all remakes can’t be hits………only if it’s as good as original n suits our nativity, people ll ve a go at it irrespective of swamake r remake…………..
overall, wat i ld lik to convey is porki is a well made movie with excellent performance by all artists….especially Darshan, the 1 n 1ly challenging star performance takes the movie to great heights…………
now also sudeep make jmm right in that movie like jab we meet ,

Porki is a challenging role for any actor,………D has done tat with ease………he isn’t doing only remakes……….he s having sufficient amt of swamakes in hand too…………
swamakes in pipeline are boss, saarathi, mysore huduga, sangolli raayanna, sarvantharyaami, etc………..
there r some remakes of athadu n shouryam………..
He is one of the top BO grossing heroes in KFI…………he can do any kind of role……..he takes the challenge n does it with complete dedication n effort

i dont watch remakes and dont like to comment on that . Always encourage the art and talent not the language or hero workship …. Hollywood is giving movies like Avatar and we indians are fighting here for remake / swamake and heroworkship , let any of the indian dare to give a movie like avatar .? no we dont have that guts.. I dont think that budget is a barrier to make a movie better than avatar in india.

@amoolya remake is not new n is happening since ages.. remake is not the issue, issue is how u bring out the movie on screen.. v in city or some parts of karnataka know tat this is a remake not every1, if a movie is hit in other lang obvisously other lang producers like to make money or bank on it n again not every1.. it is left to u to decide whether u wud want to watch it or not.. if non-kannadiga says this is recyle industry then u hv very less information abt other industry to counter talk..

Well Vinodh, when a movie is a remake, its natural for people to compare with the original. Even an actor like Aamir Khan was compared with Surya when he remade Ghajini in Hindi and Kamal Hasan was compared with Marlyn Brando for his role in Nayagan.. And above all, bellitere is a public forum in a democratic country and branding somebody else’s comments as nonsense is sheer arrogance and mis-use of the discussion forum.
y only comparing with hero u hv to compare in every other dept n we always fail in other departments.. mind u i hv seen even pokiri n other films of MB so i do not hv anything against him.. im not tat big to have some stake in the films wish i cud one day.. n if i only hv to hv some stake to tell good abt darshan or some movie then others who write against r the ones who dont like darshan n spread false feedback is it? many ppl r there who hv a budget for entertainment every month..

Just bcos D is nowhere near MB, u r getting touchy abt comparison! And funnily u r so thankful to Harish for giving the swamake list and u r also so confident tht producers wont see these comments!! Do u have some stake in this movie?
@Harish, people already keep their money allotted for telephone bills, insurances, children school fees, home expenses, petrol… and so on.. It would be difficult for them to allot funds for the sake of encouraging some so called experiemental movies!! Just being experimental is not enough, it has to be good too.. It was very experimental from Darshan’s point view. But thousands of such experimental films have come portrayed by others.

I agree with Amoolya.. Darshan should start trying to come out of his comfort zone of making remakes and try something original more often (Navagraha types).. Talent going waste!
Spendid performance making remakes ?? No credibility to story which was originally a crap movie in telugu. Our crappy directors copy the crap from crappy telugu movies. Darshan should be ashamed to do remakes. If he’s a challenging star…let him try “original” challenging roles. I can only understand that he’s “challenged” but not challenging
@santhosh, Release aagi ondu vaara nu aagilla.. already superhit ante!!! KFI is full of such fake claims. Every film is prononunced as super hit for first two weeks and at the end of the year, the number of hits won’t even cross five!
