Audio Review by Raju Shanbhag

premism Hamsalekha has found a new tool to enthrall his listeners; and the tool is called Drums. Like a kid that refuses to part with its newfound toy, this veteran music director, who changed the course of music in Kannada film industry, bangs these drums at every given opportunity and the results are not worth dying for. There are a few songs in this album which could have been worth a listen if only Hamsalekha had focused on his natural strengths, i.e., melody. But honestly, we expected a lot more than a forgettable album from a combination that gave us Nenapirali.

Premism: The album opens with the title track of the film which sounds decent enough after repeated listening efforts. A far cry from Hamsalekha’s yesteryear melodies, this song does just okay in both music and lyrics department. Rajesh Krishnan sounds like SPB and the title card says another singer in this song is Shreya Ghoshal. You will be pardoned for thinking that Shreya Ghoshal has nothing to do with this song.

Hodi Line: Hamsalekha tries to get young and happening with this allegedly peppy track. But he lets himself down with a track that sounds outdated and lyrics that look jaded. Jessy Gift tries his best with his high pitch voice. Maybe this song would have been popular if it had come just a few decades ago.

Arishini Kunkuma Shobhite: Chitra’s serene Alaap in the beginning of the song raises your expectations about the song. But your hopes are soon dashed as you discover that it’s a customary song about Kannada and its glory. Drums beat incessantly and soon, you don’t really give a damn about what the lyrics conveys and just wait for this song to get over, unless you have the luxury of switching it off.

Premism-Amulya

Gulaabi Kennege: This is the best of this average lot. Kunal Ganjawala seems all geared up about singing a song he understands nothing about. The song his high on energy (may be a bit too high for some peace loving ears) and the lyrics look like a personal tribute to Amulya, the heroine of this film, with words like Amulya and Cheluvina Chittara generously thrown in the ring. Another singer, Anuradha Bhat makes a sort of guest appearance in this song which itself is around four minutes long.

Premism Premism (Pathos): This time around Rajesh Krishnan joins Anuradha Bhat (I think she sang the first song too, which is attributed to Shreya Ghoshal) for the patho version of this song. Funnily, the soothing tune and absence of threatening drum beats make sure that you are happier when you listen to this patho song!

Mysorge Aishu Bandlu: This is the remix of that almighty popular song (koorak kukkarahalli kere) from Nenapirli. If the original song gave you some priceless info about the places to hang out with your loved one, this new version tells about the things that can go horribly wrong in such places! It is fun to listen to, and you can listen to this song any day instead of the new tracks listed above.

Sagamapaanisa: Sonu Nigam sings Sagamapaanisa, but the relentless drumming in the background pulls you in the other direction. Confused, you try relying on silky voice to guide you through this song. But again, the ever haunting drums make you lose your way again. A ‘could have been good’ song.

    @KFI,
    unless she is a topper in her class..i did rather prefer amoolya to pursue films…avalu oodi yen dabakabeku…even biggies like amir & salman are dropouts who are doing very well in films.

    if KFI has to improve it needs more young ‘talented’ ppl and professionals who can compete with these current genre of non-actors, mis-directors, un-producers etc who are here only based on their family relationships

    @kannadiga
    this comments section is to review premism’s music, not amulya’s looks.

    Amoolya is looking very hot in the above pics. She is another hot heroine in KFI after Aindritha……….
