Love is Everything!

Movie Review By Raju Shanbhag

Rajkumari

Love is telepathic

In the climax of film Rajkumari, when Kanniha comes sprinting to the railway station to convey her love to Balaji (Yup, Mane Devru revisited), she sings a song which had been previously sung by Balaji in his DREAMS! He had never even whispered that tune in front her in the entire film, but yet, here she is, singing and dancing that same tune to her heart’s content. Need more proof that telepathy exists?

Love is a musical chair

Nikihita’s mama loves Nikhita, who loves Balaji, who loves Kanniha. Kanniha doesn’t love anybody (and doesn’t know that she was about to be engaged to Balaji) but has a great respect for Balaji’s real life brother Ravi Chandran, who in turn loves Rumaneethu Chowdhary who is dead. The viewer is alive but he envies Rumaneethu Chowdhary’s luck.

Love doesn’t know the boundaries of age

Nikhita, who eyes up Balaji, flirts heavily with Rangayana Raghu who calls Kanniha, who is of Nikhita’s age, his daughter. Ravichandan loves Rumaneethu Chowdhary who looks half his age.

Love is ferocious

Balaji fights with Goondas after ripping apart the handle of a hapless Bajaj scooter standing in a corner minding its own business. He doesn’t even pay for the losses for the scooter owner. What a stingy ferocity!

Love is old fashioned

A man in a village rapes a girl and as a punishment, he is made to marry that girl! Heroine doesn’t want anybody to think that her face brings them good luck and therefore, pretends that she is a widow (As if it’s a proven fact that a widow’s face is a bad omen). The film stars Ravichandran’s brother, but even his grandfather might have had a modernistic mindset.

Love is fat

Nikhita

May be it’s the after effects of love; but everyone in the film, with the exception of Kanniha, have put on solid weight. While Nikhita has no qualms about showing off in which exact places of her body she has put on weight, others such as Balaji and Ravichnadran try to hide it as much as possible. Whoever said men are bolder than women!

Love is a miracle

Kanniha’s father Srinivasamurthy, who is ditched by Kanniha for having killed Ravichandran roams around in Bangalore. Nobody knows where he lives but he appears at exact moment to take the story forward and then disappears into thin air!

Love is technologically weak

Ravi mama’s films, which were at least technologically brilliant, finally break that tradition with Rajkumari. The print of the film is already in its last breath and the less we speak about the reckless editing, the lovelier it will be.

Love is outdated

This film would have been called a ‘run of the mill’ story even if it was released 25 years ago.

Love has patience

Do you?
