Reliance Entertainment Forays into Kannada

January 6th, 2009 at 6:42 pm

Just at the time when Pyramid Saimira closes down all its operations in South India, Reliance Entertainment decides to push its luck by venturing out in Kannada. The company has chosen Girish Kasaravalli, the art house legend to direct its first movie. This effectively means that Reliance Entertainment will have to wait until its second film to get a widespread public opinion about the quality of its films in Kannada.

reliance-big-entertainmentThe new film produced by Reliance Entertainment is named Savari and it is based on a novel by same name by Amaresh Nugadoni. Like a typical Girish Kasaravalli fare, the film will focus on the plights of suppressed class and will be all ready to bag countless awards in film festivals we have rarely heard of.

While it’s true that Girish Kasaravalli has brought lots of accolades for Kannada in the world cinema circuit, it’s also true that his films remain largely unseen by an average moviegoer. Right from Ghatashraddha to Gulabi Talkies, we have read about his films and awards they won in the newspapers in the TV channels, but have hardly seen his films in theatre.

Hope this time there is a change in the fortunes and people can actually watch this movie in theatres.
