Savaari Movie Review – Story of two twins!

BT Rating: ★★½☆☆ (2.5/5)

Movie Review By Raju Shanbhag

Raghu, Kamalinee - Savari Ladies and gentlemen, I want to share a heart wrenching story of two twins separated at their birth with you. The first twin named Gamyam, grew up in Andhra Pradesh and went onto become a household name in that state. The second twin named Savaari is just surfacing in Karnataka, which incidentally is the home ground for many such abandoned and inferior twins from other states.

They say twins always react to things in the similar manner, and we have seen it in films. As I already told you, Gamyam grew up in Andhra Pradesh and reacted to the Naxalite problem in that state in a sensible way. Savaari is just a twin, and not having anything better to do, he just imitates its elder brother, even though the problem is not as rampant in Karnataka.

The elder twin, Gamyam, is a sensitive and sensible soul; and so is this younger twin Savaari. In fact, both are so similar in their appearance, that if you have seen one, you will confuse them for the other! So cute, isn’t that how twins are supposed to be? Haven’t we seen it Seeta aur Geeta and Rani Maharani? You make the connections.

The elder twin roamed through the abandoned interiors of Andhra Pradesh in search of a social activist girl who ditched him because he was filthy rich. He discovers lots of things in the process and experiences the hardships of life firsthand. He is accompanied by a petty bike thief who also changes in the process of this journey. And then, there are a couple of fights, an item number and a brunch with social issues such as Naxalism.

savari

The older twin Gamyam grew up with Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi (director) and had a strong upbringing. The younger twin Savaari grew up with Jacob Varghese (director) who is not as well placed as Radha Krishna. Jacob Varghese is trying to find his foot in the industry and he has no option but to ask Savaari to copy his elder brother in every possible way. But then, Jacob Varghese has also taught Savaari some things which Gamyam hadn’t learnt. Like Savaari is a little more refined and practical (younger twins usually are!) than Gamyam and looks a little bit more believable than the elder twin. But yet, Savaari lacks the raw intensity of his elder brother.

Sreenagara Kitty almost rediscovers himself with the younger twin Savaari and comes up with a memorable performance. Raghu Mukherjee struggles to act. Kamalini Mukherjee has become too experienced as she plays the same role for the third time in her life, and the experience is written all over her face in every scene.

If you had seen Gamyam when he wandered off to the streets of Bangalore last year in search of his love, then you needn’t see Savaari once again. But if you haven’t seen the elder twin, make your bookings right now.

Because twins or not, such people are rare in our state!

Savaari Cast and Crew:

Producer: Ramoji Rao
Starring: Krishna (Srinagar Kitty), Kamilini Mukerjee, Raghu Mukerji, and Suman Ranganath.

Guys who have commented, i wud like to say tat remakes is a curse for our industry, its as good as dubbing. just watch old kannada movies and the present movies, u will kno de difference. people should bring out the creativity… nowadayz most of de movies are related 2 gang wars, violence. try somethin different because aft 2 – 3 yrs if de same trend continues der wont be nyone 2 see kannada movies… i love kannada

I think the film is very good may not be glamourous like other normal movies but yes, storywise, screenplay, script n ofcourse music is the highlight esp two songs Marali mareyaagi n Ale Ale.. For a minute or so, just ignore whether its original or remake as long as the product is appealable to many, its fine. Srinagara Kitty is a treat to watch, i always undermined his acting skills prior to this movie..Jacob Vargese has made a very good beginning in Sandalwood, i wish he comes up with similar socio-economic related themes but viable commercially in future as well..Such is the impact of film on me that i live the scenes even today from the day i watched it 2-3 months earlier.

I think the reviewer doesn’t have a good taste and the art of reviewing the movie. I agree it is a remake from a telugu movie but it doesn’t matter if you are watching this movie first without watching telugu movie.

The movie is very good and worth seeing at least once.. Srinagara kitti has done really well.. Movie comes alive whenever he is on the screen.. Dialogues are very good and even the comedy is superb..

Good music, good acting by everyone, good comedy what else you need in a movie Mr Reviewer.. I think this deserves 4 star minimum..

i dont see how u analyze movies..what kannada audience like u seem to dislike it……u had given only 1 star for the navagraha audio where people of karnataka had kan kan salige and sarvantaryaami humming during that time…now u give 2.5 star for this savari but its running to packed houses….

    Hello Mr. Reviewer,
You are spending to write reviews on new movies released evry week, but one thing I would like to say is a movie review should be an article just said and explained only about that particular movie. Dont bring other gimix and gossips while writing a movie review. Just tell about the good and bad things abouyt the movie.

If you are really concerned about the remake, quality and other issue of KFI you are welcome to publish seperate articles on those topics.

Apart from the review by the raju shanbag, he has been very unfair to the ratings.. Its an **** Movies.. Even though its an remake they have never claimed that its original .. Although there are no famous stars in the movie they have made an excellent family entertainer without any fizz.. we have to appreciate the performance by all the persons who have involved in this effort..
As you come out of theater there is a good feeling abt the movie and the characters and music is awesome …

heyhey.. i watched both in telugu n kannada… i felt the kannada version is better than telugu… cuz raghu has given a better performance than sarvanand there

  16. Madhu on April 30th, 2009 8:30 am

well, its a good film .raghu acting is good, kannada industry has got a good actress kamilini. kitty simply superb…. would lik to give ****(4 stars)..

  17. Pavan on April 13th, 2009 5:25 pm

I havent watched motocycle diaries..but i have watched Heros….And ‘Savaari’ is NOT A REMAKE OF THAT…it’s a remake of telugu film ‘Gamyam’ done under the same banner…

I feel just 2.5 stars is really unfair on part of this film…this is one of the finest kannada film in recent times…. story is good and narration is excellant… Kudos to jacob…Please watchit out along your family..I would say it’s a must watch…

Srinagar Kitti has given an excellant performance…You could notice pin drop silence in the theater during kitti’s death scene..Raghu’s role doesnt have that much scope for acting but he does a fine job…saadhu walks away with appreciation for his small role..

Music is surprisingly superb…..I didnt expected such a good music from manikant kadri…

Overall the film is good… It’s a soothes in u and u will definetly think on the message of the film once u come out of the theater..

naxal problem is rampant in the region of Sringeri mudigere….please visit these places to know about the intensity of naxal and anti-naxal activities going over there…

Living on borrowed content that was borrowed from else where. Although not an exact lift, just watch The Motorcycle diaries. It is a true story and inspiring…..
