Shh! No Press Meets After 6.00 p.m.!

February 2nd, 2009 at 10:23 pm

For reasons known only to their gifted brains, the producers association in Kannada recently issued a kind of Fatwa where it stated that there will be no press meets held after 6 p.m. on any given day. Funnily, the pathetic disasters of recent Kannada films were cited as the reason and the producers association sad that it was looking to cut costs.

The producers’ associations mind blowing logic flows something like this. If the press meet is held after 6.00 p.m., there will lots of journalists at the press meet wining and dining to their heart’s content. These same scribes will go back and write whatever they please after having dinner at the producers’ expense. Why should a producer pay from his own pocket to get bashed up on his films later?

Fair enough. But at any given parties or press meets, there will be more people from the producers and actors near circles then the journalists. Moreover, the press meets held by the producers rarely have some earth shattering announcements to be made; so journalists aren’t exactly falling over each other to attend those meets. By cancelling these press meets, the only people who will be hurt are the hoteliers who made a sizeable portion of their profits from these meets.

Bravo, producers! We hope you use that cost cutting you have just incurred will be used in searching for some good stories. More than journalists who more than often speak the truth, it’s your own paid writers who sabotage your dream projects. get some good stories, technicians and artists and make a good film.

Until then, journalists will make merry at your expense. Either in parties or in theatres!
