Shourya Movie Review

(2/5) Nothing ‘Extra’ Ordinary
God knows where all those extras come from. In every Super hero film from Darshan, Sudeep, Puneeth and company, these extras seem to erupt from all corners of earth in all shapes, sizes and colors, with the sole intention of getting manhandled by our super dude just for the heck of it. Their faces are not properly visible in the frames, and they won’t even have a single dialogue of their own before they die onscreen.
This semi philanthropic thought crossed our bored minds as Darshan chopped the limbs and other vital organs of countless extras in his latest action marathon, Shaurya. Wise souls of the industry whisper that the film is a remake of another Telugu action flick Shouryam. But at the end of the day (we had been to an evening show) all that matters the producers of the film have managed to fit in so many extras in the film and still cram a story in between all this mayhem.
‘Extra’ ordinary things do happen in life, you should just be extra careful to spot them
Coming to the story, Darshan is an extra ordinary super cop who beats up extras at will. Sampath Kumar is the sinner of the town sporting a cigar in his mouth. John Kokken plays his son, who doesn’t have bad habits like smoking but he occasionally rapes some other extras, that’s all. And then, Darshan has a long lost sister who becomes the bone of contention between him and Sampath Kumar which necessitates the presence of various bearded, bald, and bulgy baddies who are tossed up in the air by Darshan at different intervals to keep the fans and the children giggling.
We wouldn’t want to tell anything extra about this ordinary story; enough to say that Madalasa, the heroine of the story has ample scope to show off her skin. Ramesh Bhat plays the hapless father of a hot daughter (who wouldn’t want such a family to live next door?). Avinash appears in one scene and shoots himself in the head before he can take any more of this story. Sudha Belavadi has double the opportunity of Avinash and she appears in two scenes.
There is one absolutely hilarious sequence between Sampath Kumar, Bullet Prakash and Om Prakash Rao which is the highlight of the film. This is one of the finest comedy sequences in any films in recent years. Other than that, Sadhu Kokila shoots his own foot by giving himself an irritating role. His direction is average and there is nothing extra ordinary about his music either.
Darshan is extra ordinary and the film is watchable only because of him. Hope he does some original films and reduces the number of extras beaten up by him. Sampath Kumar and John Kokken are good; and they look to be well on their way for more murders and rapes onscreen. Great going guys!
On a whole, there is no extra recommendation from our side to watch this movie!

@prashi
panthulu, puttanna kanagal are basically from andhra. other directors in your list are basically tamil, telugu, konkani etc. yeah there are 4 kannada directors names in your list. even in music direction department before hamsalekha arrived all music was given by telugu/tamil ppl. even after hamsalekha most of the current hit directors are tulu or telugu. you are rejecting the facts to make yourself happy. stay like that only who cares.
the truth is something else. those who want to see can see. basically i want to see some accha kannadigas to come forward to see if there is any talent in kannadigas. Yeah suri and guruprasad are one of them. but its not enough.
fantasic movie and songs super especialy kaledoithu song mast gelathi..gelathi..gelathiii

darshan filem realy i like
and I LOVE YOU
Darshan
@manju…
Very funny comments. For your kind information, most of the 60′s 70′s 80′s movies were remade in other languges after being huge success in Kannada. Other language directors used to wait like anything for Puttanna Kanagal’s movies.
Without knowing anything dont post some bullshit. Kannada Industry has seen many veteran legends, B R Panthulu, Siddalingaiah, Puttanna Kanagal, Dorai Bhagawan, Girish Karnad, Shankar Nag and lot more. There were numerous “Hosa Aleya Chitragalu” in KFI during 70′s and 80′s and whole nation turned towards KFI for this achievement. Lot of legends have directed many gems in Kannada.. If you dont know anything, just keep quiet.
Rajendra Singh Babu has given Bandhana, Mutthina Haara, Suprabhatha etc.. Sunil Kumar Desai has given different movies like Nishkarsha, Beladingala Baale, Nammoora Mandara Hoove etc. T S Nagabharana and Nagthihalli Chandrshekar have their own contribution. Girish Kasaravalli has brought international fame to Kannada movies.
There are lot more to be listed.
Recently, sensible directors like Yogaraj Bhat, Suri, Shashank, Guruparasad are giving some innovative stuff. If you can encourage, do it , otherwise just keep quiet..
There will be ups and downs for every film industry and every director.
Vinu is cent percent true…will always makes ways.
@vinuji : Lack of quality directors is causing kfi to suck not sudeep and darshan. Anyway kannadigas were never good at directing right from the early days of kannada films. If you check out the hits of 60′s,70′s and 80′s all of them were directed by tamil or telugu people. You can’t depend on outsiders for ever. Even Dr.Raj prefered outsiders for all his films. The only time he trusted a kannada director was for his last movie with s.narayan and yeah he did one with shankarnag, which was a flop. Lets accept the fact, like marathi manoos we were never good at direction. If you don’t have the talent be prepared to suck. we can’t entirely blame on these poor actors.
KFI is heading towards exit,thanks lot to Sudeep and Darshan.This movie becoming flop and failed miserably toattract lower masses.those who have praised must be having extra time and extra money.
A beutifull film
Nice review, was fun to read, but i wish there are more movies which are fun to watch

Reviewer if you feel manhandling is extra in a movie is singing n dancing not extra.. where in d real world a couple sings n dances..
Y do any1 want to compare the movies to a reality.. films r for entertainment.. one feels happy when hero bashes 100 ppl, n one feels happy when a hero dances.. heroes like darshan r for mass, n mass like him to fight like hell tats it..
i really wonder wat extra u want..
Realy one must appreciate the guts of reviewer to go and watch and post such a lenghty remarks.All wonder the quality of entertainments and monotonous stale foods from Sudeep,Darshan.KFI is heading towards extinction without creativity and good attempts.The folks supporting and encouraging certainely must have big heart without constructive mindsets.
