Sriharikathe Movie Review

(2/5) Slowharikathe!
There is a scene in film Shriharikathe where Radhika Gandhi, who knows about her husband Sri Murali’s affair with Pooja Gandhi, hugs Pooja in pure desperation in a moment of uncontrollable agony and both find solace in each other’s arms. It’s an emotionally charged scene which will moisten the eyes of even those stone hearted men who happen to have an affair out of their wedlock! Geez, wouldn’t a man give up his right arm to have his wife and his mistress being so comfortable with other, even after knowing what he did to both of them!
Jokes apart, Shriharikathe is a film that has a problem deciding what it really wants to be. Like the protagonist of the film who couldn’t decide whether to fall for the momentary pleasure or to stay loyal to his wife, Dayal cannot decide whether he wants to keep the suspense track in the film or spruce it up with some comedy scenes. The protagonist gets to keep at least one of his loves in the climax, but Dayal doesn’t get a hold of either suspense or comedy and leaves the viewers in a fix.
Shriharikathe is the story of Shrihari, played agonizingly by Shrimurali, who, after being denied maritial pleasures from his wife Prakrurti (Radhika Gandhi), falls for Pooja (Pooja Gandhi) in a moment of desperation (This is the interval of the story!). Pooja then turns out be a giggling lady stalker and haunts Shrimurali for most part of the second half. And then when you bite your lips with multiple anticipations, the film suddenly turns on its head and starts being preachy and almost mocks at your expectations.
Dayal repeats the same mistake he committed in Circus in Shriharikathe too. He takes up a good story and then wastes considerable amount of film stock not taking the story anywhere, especially in the first half. It’s somewhat like Radhika Gandhi’s character in the film, who keeps on postponing the ‘suhaag raat’ for one or the other reason. And like Radhika’s character who procrastinates it a bit too long, the suspense element in the film takes a bit too long coming.
And the viewer has lost interest by then.
Sandwiched between two violently hot Gandhi sisters, Shrimurali is strictly OK as the leading man of two ladies in the film. In fact, it’s his sidekick Naveen Krishna, who has the best dialogues in the film and walks away with all the accolades. Hope it will not be a Dheemaku on our part to say that he should have been the leading man of the film.
Radhika Gandhi wears full clothes and half smiles in most part of the film and so, her role is neither spectacular nor bad. Pooja Gandhi has a bit more to do; she gets to star in a rap video, does the unwilling seductress act convincingly and then manages to convince the audience that all of that was for a good cause!
We know Shriharikathe was promoted as a comedy; but we hope Dayal was a bit more serious about it!

@Basavaraju,
But still, this movie is way better than Challenging Star, Power Star remake products and Mandya Prem movies. In these remakes, it is difficult to pick up few stupid things because the whole movie will be stupid…
If a first film of the hero clicks, he will settle in the film industry. Like that Murali’s 1st as hero ‘Chandra Chakori’ gave him a good opening. Unfortunately, he could not encash the success. Because of poor selection of stories, good director, less performance etc he failed to give a hit again. He has not improved his acting ability, dialogue delivery, timing sense, manarism etc.
Again, Dayal is a good actor than a Director. In ‘Baa Baro Rasika’ Sunil Rao’s career was vanished because of ‘A’ grade story. In “Circus” he expressed the talent by showing the full railway station rather than the screenplay. He depends much on “ONE LINE’ story and not on screenplay.
Pooja Gandhi has not given the successful films other than Mungaru Male, Milana, Buddivanta, Tajmahal. So far, we have not seen her good 100% individual performance in any of the movies. Only development is that she is learning the kannada language .
Dayak is never a capable writer nor a director.
He doesn’t have any sense of script. One
more shame to KFI. None of his movies are
worth watching.
