Sudeep Now Kanwarlal!
Sudeep and Ambarish have more than one thing in common now. Apart from acting together in a film, Kichcha will now remake the 80s super hit Anta, which took Ambarish’s career to new heights. The film is named “Kanwar Lal” and many aspects of the original film, including some songs, will be retained in this modern Avatar of Kanwar Lal.
While S. V Rajendra Singh Babu directed the original flick, Sudeep will direct this new version. Sudeep’s favorite producer R. Shankar will produce the movie and other cast and crew are yet to be finalized.
Meanwhile, Sudeep is also on his way to direct Dandam Dashagunam, the story for which has been written by his maverick mentor Ram Gopal Varma. He will also be making an alleged Swamake with S. Narayan in the near future.
So the remake roar of “Kutte, Kanwarlal bolo” will soon reverberate in a theatre near you!

Talk of today in KFI is that the kannada audience being away from theatres which is really true. Looking at the movies that were released in the last two years 99% of them were love stories. This is being indefinitely followed and will be followed until the film industry becomes extinct. How many love stories can be watched by the audience? Atleast in the yesteryears people were getting chance to watch family drama (oh! not today’s anna thangi, thayi sentiment stories), action (antha, sahasasimha, jiddu etc), comedy (a lot from Dwarakish, Kashinath), tragedy, suspense(Suresh Heblikar, Kashinath) and other movies. Not even a trace of difference today. A lot happens over a man’s life – his childhood, education, sports, friends, travel, work, family, excursion, village life, metro life, town life………) none of these gets into our film makers’ minds. If they want to remake they should atleast learn from foreign subjects and adopt to our genre.
Also there are lot of movies releasing everyweek – having the market diminishing even the new products will not sell. OUr film makers should learn at this high time.
‘Anta’ was the first of its kind of political background in India. Then there was a huge expectation on Ambarish. The total concept was new to the industry as well as to people of karnataka. After that on the concept of that film more than 500 films are released in South India. Every body knows the story of Kanwarlal and remembers the torture given to Ambarish and Lakshmi in that movie. Even Upendra tried to encash the name and fame of Kanwarlal and failed in “Operation Anta’ and that was a bad movie.
Except ‘My autograph” none of Sudeep’s directed films are successful. In the recent days success is not behind him. Let him try with new subjects instead of loosing money on the old subjects.
I think, Sudeep has not learnt the lesson from the remake of Telugu “Swathi mutthu”. Even though the acting was good the film did not carry for not even 3 weeks.
When the Original ‘Anta’ movie was released the tickets were sold at highest black rates at that time because of the fresh subject, image of Ambarish and Lakshmi and direction of Rajendra singh Babu.
Because of poor collection of ‘Just math mathalli’ this idea has come out of Sudeep and the producer.
Anyhow success of a film is like T20 cricket match. Best wishes, Sudeep.
Hope he wont make an a** of himself like his mentor RGV who remade Sholay to RGV Ki Aag!
