Super hit on the second day!

May 1st, 2009 at 5:35 pm

Auto-Sathya Not many people know about this, but the Kannada film industry has been churning out blockbusters for the last 4-5 months, or maybe even from the time immemorial. Every film that’s released, some movies that are not even released are confirmed super hits and all of them (even Yajna and Uda) have received unprecedented love and affection from the people of Karnataka and are on their ways to become blockbusters.

Shocked? Well, you won’t be if you are a regular reader of some of the Kannada newspapers that carry full page, colorful ads of recently released films. In their zest to promote their sinking films at all costs, these filmmakers have reached new lows in representing the facts. Thus, Auto, a film that’s most of us haven’t even heard of, comes with a “Super Hit” tag gleaming in the middle of the ad. Many other such films, which cannot garner audience even if the makers announce cash prizes for the people who drop by, gleefully announce they are “Super Hits”

Not that it really matters. The trick is used so often and by so many people, that people simply don’t believe them anymore. But the sad part is, even genuine hits that come across once in a blue moon in KFI will be watched with suspicion when they say they are super hits.

The problem is, there is no proper system of estimating box office collections in Kannada. It’s futile asking the producers as every one of them will swear on the audience that their films are crowd pullers. Frankly, there has to be a system to know the true box office collection of every film like it happens in Bollywood.

Until then, enjoy watching all the super hits every morning in your newspaper. But beware, don’t even think of going to the theatres based on those ads!

We know better than that, don’t we?
