Suvarna Film Awards – 2010
In Bollywood, there are huge number of awards given by various TV channels and publications every year. The trend seems to be catching up fast down here in KFI and many channels are coming up with their own set of awards. Channels like Udaya, ETV and Zee already give awards and now, Suvarna TV, not to be left behind, too has started its own awards.
So, for the second year running, the channel has come out with its set of awards for KFI in 29 different categories. This includes a special award to Ravichandran, which was given to him by his mother on the stage. Shivarajkumar, who is celebrating the silver jubilee of his film career, was also given a special award, which was given by his brother Puneeth and Raghavendra Rajkumar.
While nobody would have an objection to above mentioned awards, we found the awards in other sections a little baffling; and we are putting it mildly. Take for example, the best film award, which was given to Josh. Now, Josh might have been a successful film, but we felt there were other, more deserving nominees such as Eddelu Manjunatha and Manasaare in the contention for the award.
Similarly, Shivamani got the best director award, while we felt that Guruprasad lost out big time in this category. At a time when KFI was struggling with its lack of creativity and limited market, this man delivered a hit in an extremely limited budget and still showed a lot of ingenuity. No offense to Shivamani, but we felt both Guruprasad and Yogaraj Bhat (for Manasare) deserved that award more.
Jaggesh was adjudged the best actor for Eddelu Manjunatha, an award we completely agree with. Aindrita Ray bagged the best actress award and we feel that Aindrita has delivered a tight ‘slap’ on the face of people who said she was all beauty without much of an acting talent! V Harikrishna received the best music director award for Raj – The Showman and S Krishna received the best cinematographer award for Maleyali Jotheyali.
While we have our reservations about some of the awards given, we had to accept that the jury didn’t have much to choose from! 2009 seemed to be the year of flops and senseless remakes for KFI (barring a few exceptions) and the trend seems to continue on 2010 too!

Eddelu Manjunatha deserves the best film award than Josh.. But Josh too was a good movie, so it’s ok
i was very satisfied with the popular awards.pooja gandhi and sudeep are rightful inheriters of it. but one thing i found wrong was that the popular awards would be given in the last and i feel pooja gandhi derserved more than aindrita for best actress award.
“Eddelu Manjunatha” is simply one of the best and intelligent films in recent days. None of the films can match the satire and dark comedy. I think all these awards are just politics. What the heck they were thinking when they gave award to “Josh”??!!!!!

Ambarish deserve th award more than shivrajkumar as i feel.. Still shivrajkumar has lot of time to get that award.. But shivrajkumar s very human person so He s getting that award..
The awards given by Suvarna overall its good only.. Compare to that innovative film city awards.. May be few mistakes aste.. And about that function sudeep gave proper respect to Vishnu sir.. And vishnu sir deserve that.. Thank u..

these were only the worthy awards given in suvarna, rest of them were all dabba

Josh and EM does deserve an award but not Manasaare. Manasaare was a movie on the shadows of Mungaaru Male and Gaalipata. The role of hero resembled that of MM and Gaalipata and there was nothing new and fresh in the movie. Manomurthy would have been considered for the Music award but not essentially Yograj Bhat! There would be doubt how different the next movie ‘Pancharangi’ would come up. YB has himself confessed that he has no good stories to portray in his movies – he only does the movie for the time being and his livelihood.

Agree with the above comments from Raju Shanbag. Josh got award instead of Manasaare. Harikrishna getting award for Raj the showman. I thought Manasaare was much better. Manomurthy was not even nominated and some stupid albums were nominated. Jayant kaykani and Jaggesh getting awards is definitely the right choice. Shivanna got award ? why ??
