Lost in Love!

Taj Mahal Movie Review by Raju Shanbhagraju@bellitere.com

Box Office: Hit.

Taj Mahal has two high points in the film which shake you out of your comfortable existence. The first point is near the interval when the director gives an almighty turn to the story. The second point comes right in the climax, which although is ridiculous, manages to shock you nonetheless. Between these two high points, the journey to Taj Mahal is a bumpy ride at best; beautiful now, bewildering the very next moment.

taj-mahal Taj Mahal has an ordinary plot with unique twists. But the uniqueness of the story proves to be the bane of the film as director Chandru looks lost in many sequences, especially in the characterization of Ajay. He handles the subject well, when he is not confused. But when the confusion strikes, god save the viewers! Many scenes defy plain common sense and logic as director tries his best to mislead you first to interval, and then to the climax of the story.

Director Chandru’s talent in storytelling and the lack of continuity in the story are on ample display throughout the film which rises and falls like the stock market index. One moment, you wonder at the fabulous handling of the subject by the director, and the very next moment the lackluster twists in the script make you give up all hopes. The rollercoaster ride continues till the end, when story comes to a sad and stupid end. Sad, because the last ten minutes have been beautifully shot, but this beautifully shot ending seems to have been forced on the story, just to defend the name of the film, which otherwise would have had no meaning at all! The ending is also stupid, and we were expecting a better climax than what was thrust upon us.

Chandrasekhar’s camera is a highlight of the film. The man doesn’t have many beautiful locales to shoot except in the songs. But even without the scenic locations, he does a neat job with the lens.

Lead actor Ajay is the Badshah of this bizarre Taj Mahal. He essays the role of a carefree youngster who is about to graduate to being a careless youngster with verve and versatility. He excels in all departments and threatens the position of existing actors in Kannada through every frame of the film. Boy, does he act well! Pooja Gandhi promises to come good in many scenes, but takes off to sing a song, giving up all the hard work she has done till then. It’s nice to see Rangayana Raghu give a controlled performance. After watching him ham to the core in Minchina Ota, we see him returning to his elements in this film, and that’s heartening to see.

Music director Abhiman makes us proud with some soulful tunes that make the intrusion of the songs an almost welcome break! If the tunes were not good, the placement of the songs would have been another minus point of the film. But you do not notice them as the songs are good and they are shot well.

On a whole, Taj Mahal is a nice effort, if you do not worry too much about the glitches and hitches in the story, you can give it a try. We can assure you that it will keep you entertained.

Taj Mahal Music Review: All in Love!

By Raju Shanbhag

It seems the lyricists of Taj Mahal are heavily inspired by the name and theme of this movie. There is love everywhere. Now that is expected in a movie like this. But there is an overdose of same expressions that talks endlessly about morning, mist, moonlight etc.. etc. Music director Abhiman somehow manages to come up with some lovely tunes working with these love struck lyricists, which make the album interesting. But honestly, we wish the love quotient in the album was somewhat less to make it more interesting.

TajMahal

Hoovantha: A mischievous heart wanders in another heart trying to find the path of love. Prema Kavi Kalyan lets his mind wander trying to find the right expressions for this song. The lyric touches you sometimes and hits you hard other times. Abhiman’s tune is in line with the lyrics; melodious now, merciless the next moment.

Ibbaru Preetina: The singer in Abhiman picks up the mike for this song and renders it as best as he can. But the music director in Abhiman takes a backseat and lets the tune wander aimlessly. Lyricist Manjunath Lava chases it further away with his lyric that looks like a phone conversation between two lovelorn strangers.

Kolluvudaadare: Singer Badri Prasad dares to kill him if you want to. But he is a good singer, so we’ll let that challenge pass by. Lyricist Manju Honnavara is already on the path of self destruction and doesn’t need our help. Long live Abhiman because this is a nice tune.

Kushiyagide: I am happy, says the lyrics; we are happy too, as the tune is catchy. The song brings in much needed cheerfulness for an album that is dominated by depressed souls wandering around aimlessly. Nice effort (Not by the depressed souls!).

Neenendu: Although you have a sinking feeling that you have heard it before, this is again a nice song by Abhiman. Singer Shreya Goshal does a neat rendition of the song and her pretty voice matches seamlessly with the tune of the song and mood of the lyrics.

Nee Nanna Hrudaya: After taking up the mike in Ibbaru Preetina, music director Abhiman wisely hands it over to Rajesh Krishnan. But just when you are about to congratulate him about his intelligent move, he picks up the pen and writes a song just for you. The song has all the usual elements of a love song inviting the forces of the nature to be a party to some godforsaken love affair. Grow up, gentlemen!

Preeti Annodu: This is a short but not a sweet song. Singer Chetan Sosca again sings about love and Abhiman again dishes out a similar sounding tune.

I saw the song ‘KuShiyaagide eko ninnindale..’ on U2 yesterday.. Oh my god.. What a picturisation.. Probably this is the third song after ‘Onde Ondu Saari’ from Mungaaru maLe & ‘Stylo’ from HUDUGAATA, which I felt I was not seeing a KANNADA SONG.. The song looked like a POP ALBUM.. AJAY & POOJA GAANDHI were rocking in those sizzling sets..

This song would rock like anything..

    Mr. Warning!

It seems that you don’t understand English or you just love ordering people around, telling them what to do, and what not to do.

You tell that Raju Shanbhag writes spoilers. Actually, he has not written even a single line about the story. If you want to know what spoilers are, read the Prajavani review of Taj Mahal, where they very clearly mention what happens in the end.

If you don’t understand reviews, at least stop bossing around and do something on your own.

  17. warning on July 28th, 2008 7:35 am

Raju Shanbhag’s new trend in review writing. Highlight all the faulty spoilers with analogy and then in the final para ask people to watch it if comfortable with all the above spoilers! Great Job.

Please don’t engage in such activities which stops people from going to the theaters.

Stop placing ads in your site, music downloads, and stop publishing kannada movie reviews because you and your site are a bane to the industry. Stop piracy.

    Hey guys

What (second times asking) is saying is a valid point. It seems like this site is not following lane discipline ha ha ha – that too when there are separate tabs for different language. Why this mixing? Once you are in kannada pages, It’s understood that one wants and expects to see only kannada stuff in it. Its a common sense/common psychology. Something has gone wrong with these IT coolies (he he he – just kidding). Even I have felt uneasiness in skipping hindi links all the time. Keepers of this site should consider this and move all those links down or completely remove hindi links from kannada pages as suggested by (second time asking).

  24. second time asking on June 19th, 2008 7:02 pm

ok an alternative for this would be like placing the hindi links after Movie archive or before the feeds.

Then there will be no hurdles for navigation. Now everytime one has to skip and scroll off hindi links to go to June 2008 Releases, Forthcoming movies, and others.

  25. second time asking on June 19th, 2008 6:43 pm

    To Purushottama

get rid of your lousy attitude purushottama.

  26. second time asking on June 19th, 2008 6:22 pm

Pls remember that I am not against any language

Mine is only a request and not a demand since it is your site

Bellitere.com is a good site and “Bellitere “name itself indicates that Kannada is given first priority.

When this is the case, it would be better if Hindi Move Review Links remain under “Bollywood Action” tab. Why should Hindi links be displayed in Kannada section also? Its looks so oddly intrusive and irritating in midst of all the Kannada links.

Have you placed Kannada movie reviews link in Hindi? No

    Then why this differentiation?

Its not the question of clicking it or not.. pls take this in a right way..

Hope u got the point and won’t disappoint me.

  27. Purushottama on June 19th, 2008 1:34 pm

    Second Time Asking Kanda,

Ninna Keli yaaru web site nadesalla kano raja. Ninna tale use madi alli click maddodu nilsidre problem finish agoguttallo muddumari!

  28. Sneha on June 19th, 2008 1:11 pm

Mr asking second time, the so called Kannada portals like chitraloka, galatta, nowrunning..etc, all of them have telugu, tamil movies section in their websites. This site has only Hindi links. Unlike Tamil, and Telugu, atleast Hindi is our national language.

Those sites wont even allow you to say anything to them. And this site gives a chance and platform to express your opinions. Dont misuse it with such cheap comments.

  29. TellingFirstTime on June 19th, 2008 10:54 am

Dude, just because Hindi links are there, you dont need to click them!! You have a choice to click or ignore!!

  30. asking second time on June 19th, 2008 10:14 am

pls remove the Hindi Movie Reviews links column (right side of every page)from kannada zone.
