Ullasa Utsaha Movie Review

(2.5/5) Ullasa Utsaha – Bit of Both
The rain is there in the tagline (“Ullasa Utsaha, A rain of joy”, or something like that), and rabbit pokes its nose in a scene. But fret not my dear friends, this is neither a sob story, nor is there a blustering of rain. Ullasa Utsaha borrows the fun filled moments of the Telugu original in its entirety and gives you many moments of fun; of course, only if you have not seen the original.
Ullasa Utsaha is not a film that will remain etched in your memory for years to come. But having said that, the film does complete justice to the price of your popcorns and drinks for two and half hours, and it’s no mean achievement. There are some hilarious dialogues in the film, like the one with Sharan, when he comes to his sister’s house and asks for Boost to drink. “Boost is the secret of his energy,” says Rangayana Raghu jokingly, and Sharan cringes, “You should not give away secrets like that!”
Again, the dialogue is dutifully taken from the original film, and frankly, there is nothing left to see in Ullasa Utsaha if you have already seen Ullasanga Utsahanga. Sadly, this includes Ganesh too, who although is a livewire in the film, ends overacting in many comedy scenes, and those are ominous signs for this “comedy time” star.
Not that Ganesh is bad in Ullasa Utsaha. In fact, he has done a better job than Yasho Sagar, who was the lead on the Telugu Original. But in Ullasa Utsaha, that easy flowing, almost careless dribble of humor that emanated from the mere presence of Ganesh seems to be missing in some places. May be the man is trying too hard to deliver the goods.
Why try so hard, when the film itself doesn’t take it seriously?
And that starts with the story itself. There is this girl who is tortured by her typically filmy step-mother and who finds solace in her schoolmate. Then, the screenwriter sets them apart and girl runs away from her home in search of her childhood sweetheart. But she bumps into Ganesh, who is the soon-to-be-serious-irresponsible son of a garage mechanic and yeah, he falls for the girl (Yami Gautam). The rest of the film comprises of how Ganesh woos his lady love with some humor, some sentiments, and some ill fated actions sequences.
Whom will the girl choose in the end? An unknown actor who plays her childhood sweetheart or a reigning darling of the masses who can pull audience to the theatres even on a Friday afternoon?
Yami Gautam maybe a newcomer, but she is not naïve!
And there is not much to say about this heroine. She looks good, but her acting doesn’t. Director Devaraj Palan knows this and makes her smile most of the times, leaving the rest to pros like Rangayana Raghu and Ganesh. Others like Sharan, Rangayana Raghu and Sadhu Kokila have done this before, and we have said that before too! Preethi Chandrashekar has all the potential to be the regular Attige of the KFI in the coming days as she sizzles in whatever little opportunities she gets.
Ullasa Utsaha would have earned more stars for its pure entertainment quotient if it was not a religious copy. But then, god gives some, and takes away some more, doesn’t he?

what more do we want from a movie? not a single boring moment in this one. this is what i call a paisa vasool movie. btw, i saw the original for a few moments, could not tolerate the hero’s acting. ganesh has done excellent job. A+
Ganesh,superb shirts man…….loved ur dress code…and ur acting is superb compared to telgu version…..
nice one ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but not good than previous films ,,,,,! because not colourfulll than previous films…………………….. !!!!!!
One of the worst movie of Ganesh career. Other than one song, no song is good and heroine is not at all good looking………………….Screen play is pathetic………………I have not seen Telugu version so no comments how much that movie was good. But this is total time waste movie……………….
It may be good movie, but reality is it is copy of Telugu Movie “ULLASANGA UTSAHANGA”. so kannada film industry cannot take the credit for success. I just can’t understand why in kannada industry such type of films are not coming, originally..
The movie was amazing….awesome….fabulous….marvellous….inxcredible……outstanding……a classic entertainer……..people pls don’t listen to any stupid reviews……it’s a must watch movie deserving 5 stars…….remake or not….no kannadiga would had watched the Telugu version……the
movie is superve……never miss it…….golden star rockssssss…….
it does not help ganesh to gain semblane of position in kfi as he is going upendra, dharsan,sudeep etc way by signing one remake or the other. Pathetic to see him and his position in kfi.
NO COMMENTS.HOPEFULLY DO WELL
This movie was not worth to be ‘remade’. Time to move on with next!!
@Rubbo Gundu
and also gaurd our area in the night
Ya I have heard about him (“rescue Ganesh”) . He catches snakes in our city
@Raj fan,
Apparently, it seems you have not heard the famous “rescue ganesh”…
Hopefully no para para, heartu dialogues
ganesh seems like Tibetan in this movie…… movie is good, of course it to be, remake na so.
Another waste remake. Another flop list to Ganesh.
Why are you comparing Telugu version with this one? How do you expect that ppl have already seen the Telugu version? Most of us watch only Kannada movies and therefore please review the movie from the Kannada audience’s perspective. Not from the perspective of a Telugu guy who is seeing UU just to see which version is better.
Hope you publish this comment !
@Jamadaagni,
I feel giving low ratings to such crappy remakes is absolutely right. Ullasa Utsaha’s original in Telugu is not exactly a remake material. So, no point in remaking that. Remaking critically acclaimed movies is okay, but not this.
thanks for the review…watever the review is, people are liking movie….
This reviewer gives less than 3 rating for a remake movie however good it is.. You are such a looser man….
nice movie…. ganesh acting superb
