Vedhika – The Sangam Girl
Whirlwind From Karnataka Comes Back Home
Had it not been for her innate faith in her own abilities, you’d have probably seen her on the cover of Forbes magazine in a business suit and a taut smile, with the cover story reading. ‘Businesswoman of the year’ some years down the line.
But fate, had something else in store for Vedhika Pooja Kumar, who after completing her graduation in Business Administration and Post Graduation in Marketing in London is now slowly, but surely inching her way up the tumultuous box-office charts, instead of monotonous sales graphs.
Vedhika features on our page, because this dusky light-eyed damsel, who first traveled the world in academic pursuits and has now subsequently caught Tamil and Telugu films by storm, is finally coming home.
Back to where she belongs.
Born to an industrialist father in town located near the Maharashta – Karnataka border and raised in Mumbai, Vedhika is about to debut in her first Kannada film Sangam due to be released in October. The big budget movie stars Ganesh to be directed by Ravi Verma, which Vedhika claims, should be her best yet.
The 25 year old beauty has earlier mesmerized audiences in films both in Telugu like Muni and a couple of other Tamil movies like Kaalai and Madrasi with which she debuted.
Vedhika is the glamorous portion in the family, of which her mother and a younger brother are her favourites. She stays with them now after spending many of her schooling years in isolation, at a boarding school in Panchagani.
But it was at the boarding school that she not only picked up a penchant for sports like basketball and badminton, but also stumbled on one of her most cherished passions, dancing.
Bharaynatyam and Kathak are her favourite dance-forms. In fact her dancing capabilities held her in good stead as in the film Muni, which was directed by dance choreographer Lawrence.
When it comes to acting it’s the sky Vedhika wants to aim for. Little wonder that her icons are none other than Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kamal Hassan and Chiranjeevi. When you set your sights on such stars, you must push the horizons even further. Vedhika aims to do just that. Why, only a few roles old in the film industry, she already has plans to shed her run-of-the-mill roles and is desperate to play roles with shades of gray in it. Amitabh Bachchan took almost a lifetime to do that didn’t he?

Yes, She speaks kannada well.. But I dont think she was embarassed to speak in north karnataka accent. As per the report in KannadaPrabha, during the press meet, she started speaking Kannada voluntarily and then only press came to know that she can speak Kannada..
I heard she can speak kannada. But she was embarassed to speak in north karnataka accent, so she spoke in english.
My God! She’s choooooooo cute…
I saw 2 song clips from this movie “Dil Mange more” and “Agali sangama namma hrudayada sangama”, both sung by the music director Devi Sri Prasad. Songs sounded good on first hearing. The picture frames are rich too. Hopefull we will have another melodious album. Heard that the album was releasing on 9th Sept. Is it ture?
