Yogi Music Review

(2.5/5) Audio Review by N.Jagadish
jinkemarina… ni jinkemarina…ni jinkemarina…
You might have listened to this song several times and might have wished why can’t Kannada films produce such numbers again and again. Well, the duo of Emil and Yogesh, who created the waves by ‘jinkemari’ song, have once again joined for the film Yogi. Have they managed to create the same magic is a matter to be debated.
The album has six songs penned by different lyricists. It is good to see that a new breed of song writers is on the rise in the industry. Most of the songs have been composed and written to please Yogesh’s fan following. We have rock, rap, hip-hop, tapanguchi and some Harikathe in between to maintain the balance of over crowded western beats.
Neenomme nakresaku (Karthik): The song impresses with its smooth melody and well written lyrics. You will get the lines of the song on your lips in just two takes. It is the only song in the album which has a hint of classical music in it. Once again Karthik has done a neat job in rendering the song.
Jogiyaad yogi (Sangeetha, Karibasavayya, Sinchana, Aryan, Manaaf): It is a situational song with lines depicting the change in hero. It starts in Harikathe style and follows rock kind of music for the remaining portion. The song has been made keeping in mind Loose Mada fans. Veteran Karibasavayya leaves an impact by rendering the Harikathe portion.
Bruce lee vamsha (Swapna, Kay Kay, Yogesh, Emil): The song is mainly an English song in rap genre with tinge of kaliyonka chaman in it. It contains lines in Kannada sung by or rather talked over by Yogesh himself. The song pleases only those who have good ears for rap otherwise it doesn’t affect hard core Kannada listeners.
Ae maga cigarette kodu (AR Rehana, Emil, Yogesh, Umesh): It is the song of the album. It has all the ingredients of becoming another big hit like ‘jinkemari’ or at least touching its toes of success. With its hip hop beats and tailor made voice of AR Rehanna, cousin of music maestro AR Rahaman, it will sure rock the pendals and orchestra in coming festival season.
Appu andre appune (Benny Dayal, Karthik, Emil, Jessi Gift): The song praises Power star Punith in usual tapanguchi style but fails to impress by its music in any manner.
ArdambardaDaadi (Mohammad Aslam, Chaitra HG, Bhavya): You can easily make out that this is an item number as it follows the usual industry trend. Emil has once again used kaliyonka chaman beats in the background. This song also leaves no impact.
Overall the album has two tracks worth listening, two average and other two forgettable numbers.
